Re: Need A/C button to fan control wiring help!! Pg 54- Speedfoos' Turbo Install
Thanks Carl and Travis! My avatar section looks like a Las Vegas slot machine now!
Here's a non-turbo related update. Well, kind of non-turbo update, I did have to drive my car to take care of this!
For folks who have never served, being in the Army entails a lot of different things. Decent benefits, mediocre medical care, cool clothes with matching socks, boots, and underwear, and the responsibility for taking care of your own.
This is normally a good thing.
Except for when you get a 0500 phone call on a day off.
You had been looking forward to the 9 hours of sleep that you'd be able to get - you'd really been excited about this mind you - and that call starts with, "Chief, uh SGT Snuffy was arrested last night for drunken disorderly at the Club. We need you to come take custody of him."
Yay.
So that started my morning. A nice hot cup of UCMJ action. That's Uniform Code of Military Justice for you non-military blokes.
What's even worse than ripping my dead ass out of bed, still grasping weakly at my stuffed teddy, is that they threw the book at my guy for a bullshit reason. It sounds like he was calling a cab (drunk off his ass, but still doing the right thing), had wandered into the kitchen area of the club while doing so, and was summarily fucked with by the bartender. My boy brushed him with his shoulder (quote from the cops) so homeboy squeals "Insubordination!! Assault on a senior noncom!!" Which is bullshit because homeboy was the bartender in his spare time.
That sets my troopies up for failure right there.
We call it a "conflict of interest" in the Army, I guess it's something else in the Air Force. Homeboy is serving alcohol to junior troopies, they get drunk and do what drunk kids do, and then he cries like a bitch and gets all official. Bullshit says I. /rant
I know that probably doesn't make complete sense to folks who aren't or haven't been in the service, but I just wanted to whine a little bit this morning.
But I did get to drive my boosted Honda to go get him and subsequently take him home! It was fun! The HG is officially leaking by the way, just a little compression loss on start-up, no overheating issues or anything else though. I'll have to take it a easy until the gaskets and ARP studs get here.
Unfortunately that means I won't be able to boost to 9 psi until that gets fixed. Booger.
Thanks for reading folks.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
hey there foos
wel today i disconnected the ac press switch connector, manual says is to secure the ac system of overpress. But tested it started up te car and let
it idle warm, I also wrote down oil temp reading.
10min idle 58°C
15min idle 70°C
23min idle 80°C fans came on
26min fans on 2de time
29min fans on 3de time
30min idle 88-90°C
40min idle 91°C
So for now i can tell ya its not the ac press switch.
For the ac button i looked at the ac diagram and if i am reading it correct, its ground and connected at the spool side of the compressor clutch relay.
if some one else can check if i am correct that would be great but i hope
this nfo can help you.
peace keep up the good work.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
I bought my vac mani from Voodoo Boost (www.voodooboost.com). Nice piece of kit, cost like $25 and came with all the fittings I could ever want. It just doesn't come with plugs for the holes you don't end up using. Which was fine since I had extra from oil filter sandwich adapter. I recommend it. Cheaper (by a little) than a Golden Eagle, and it comes in your choice of anodized colors!
Bark. Been watching my oil temps and they don't every go above 220°F, even after a 1st-3rd redline boost beating. Most of the time they hover around 210°F during normal driving. Since I also pulled the compressor out and disconnected the wiring, that may be why my fans don't come on automatically anymore. Other than that, all this will definitely help when I wire that A/C switch as my fan switch. It will probably wait until next weekend though as I have some more immediate repairs to do tomorrow.
The PS pulley nut fell off today somewhere on the road and I couldn't find it. Wee. After driving it without power steering, there is no way that I will ever remove it. It's a booger moving those big-ass 17s around with no hydraulic help. Gotta get a replacement tomorrow. Wish me luck.....
I am going to fix my exhaust tomorrow too. Most of the putty has blown off and she's loud!!!!
Oh and my alternator isn't putting out it's normal 14.5 volts now. So the belt is either too loose or too tight. Gotta fiddle with that tomorrow too! All part and parcel to the DIY turbo gig!
But we went to Camden Town (counter-culture area of London) for the day and had a great time. Lots of good food, tons of interesting people and overall a really cool place. Even for a 31-year old fart like me.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
If anyone knows what size it is off the top of their head (PS pulley nut), that would be great. Majestic just has it as "Power Steering Pulley Nut" and no thread pitch.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
Yeah, you've got a Subie now right? Factory reliable boost FTW! I can't wait to just hit 9 psi, but I've got to fix these issues first. Exhaust and PS pump should be taken car of tomorrow, then I'm just waiting for the HGs and ARP studs to arrive so I can replace the head gasket.
I hate changing out HGs. My back hurts for like two days afterwards. As long as the studs don't give me grief it should only take about 4 hours though.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
will disconnect compressor tomorrow and see what happens.
what you mean by normal driving? if i drive like normal like 80km/h oil temp will
stay 212°F. On the highway 30 min 120km/h it will go to 233°F - at 140 it goes to 248°F that doesnt look like normal then?

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
I'm using the 6-port vac mani but only needed three ports - BOV, WG, and gauge. I T'd into another line for my addt'l map sensor. I'd get the 4-port if I were you. I have no idea what I'd use the three other ports for.
Ching, are you running 5W20 or 5W30? My temps used to rise to 240° F on highway driving, but since I switched to the 5W30, they don't go above 220° now.

Re: The Speedfoos' Turbo Install and Everything Else Thread!!
No probs man.
And I officially suck at welding.
Straight lines on plate steel is no problem. However this pipe welding stuff is kicking my ass. I've been practicing for 4 hours now and I'm just going to attack the exhaust at this point. Practice is for fags.
I'll make it work even if it takes me 8 iterations of weld, grind to find holes, weld, grind to find holes, ad nauseum!
