Well, I'm home again for at least a couple weeks before I head back down to Georgia. You'd think I like it down there since I spend so much time in that state. Well I don't.
Anywho, I prepped the bay last night to get the motor out. I was all set to just rent a hoist and pull it out the easy way this morning, but of course, no one had one available. Time to improvise.
1.5" steel conduit and a racheting tie down strap.
While this seemed like a good idea at the time, it was fairly difficult to do by myself. It gets all wobbly and tilty. See?
And then I wiggled it around some to get the tranny off, again this was a little more difficult that I wanted it to be. Not awful, but definitely not as easy if I were using a hoist. But I persevered as always.
Once I got to this point, I decided to man up and get my wife to help me pull the motor out. I decided to be more of a man and make her lift it out while I supervised. Too easy. She's hiding her face here because she sassed me and I punched her in the mou..... Oops. I mean, she fell down the stairs again. Mindy is very clumsy.
Get back in the kitchen woman! This is man's work.
Empty bay.
Time to put the motor on the stand and start pulling bits off it. Most everything removed except the girdle and the crank on my awesome $40 Harbor Freight engine stand.
Popped the girdle off and all of my bearings look good on both sides. Cool. I don't have to buy new bearings now. Just clean them up, regrease things and put it back together.
Time to start cleaning the motor. This took a long time. It was really dirty and had RTV everywhere from the end cap, oil pump and oil pan. I had also snapped a PCV chamber bolt last time so I got that out as well.
While I was cleaning, the mail lady showed. She did not have my bore brush, so I punched her in the mouth too..... Oh. I mean she fell down the same steps. I really need to do something about those front steps. So many accidents lately....
But the Fedex guy had goodies for me! Thanks Pete!!
Aw yeah. Pruven drag wheels with M/T drag radials. I've only been waiting for them since April.
Back to work. Time to "mask" the block now that it's all clean. Don't laugh, it works.
And a little Cast Aluminum engine enamel from Vatozone. $5.50 and I still have a half can. Great stuff.
Had enough to do the pan too.
I may hit the head as well, but we'll see.
That's pretty much it for today. I futz around in the bay, did some wire tidying up, finally removed the stock fuel line, moved stuff around, re-routed a few things and then I realized I was tired and sore. So I left the garage and came in to the house.
It's really messy and I don't want to clean it.
