Re: Wasn't the IM, Valves are Fuxored (Page 178)! - The Speedfoos' Turbo Thread!!
OK, head is all pulled apart. A couple damaged bits.
Here's the exhaust stud that I mentioned.
Cam gear was cracked as well on three spokes
No big deal though. Pulled the rest of the studs out just to make it easier to handle on my little workbench.
Rocker assembly looked pretty good, if a little crappified on the end caps. Then again it's off a Hawaii car with like 60K on it, so no big deal
Lots of corrosion and gunk on the combustion chambers though. Intake valves had siezed a little as well, took the back of my screwdriver to pop them loose. My guess is the head has been sitting for a while given the amount of crap in there.
Nothing a little gasoline and elbow grease can't fix!
Everything is out and ready to be swapped though. Not bad for 2 hours of work!

Not bad at all for two hours.. looks like the Suzuki 90hp heads I got to pull off this past week at school.
Cars still give me the creeps though.... these heads and blocks and everything you're taking apart is about 90% the same as whats on these outboard motors.. ecspecially when I went into my Honda course a few months ago.. but im still tempted to take everything on my engine apart.. my luck with my car just stinks..

Not much difference between a Suzuki 90hp head and a Honda 127hp head I'll bet!
Motors are motors man, as long as they are OHC, piston/rod-based, instead of pushrod or wankels, they are pretty easy to work on. Congrats on the cert!

Well, I thought so, but it's always something. Have a read. Not so bad, just a 48-hour delay.
Anyways, on to today's work.
Just a note, when you re-assemble a head, always put RTV (or Hondabond) underneath the endcaps otherwise it will leak. Just a little bit like so.
Here's Scott (wolfgang5884 on here) being put to work! I actually had someone to help me today, thanks Scott!!! Here he is pulling the motor mount off in preps to put the head back on.
And fast-forward to four hours later when she was ready to go. Had everything ready to go, started topping off the fluid, and look what I found.
Yes that's a tiny pinsize hole in my nice Koyo race radiator. Grr.... Oh well. Such is life. Nothing a little JB Weld can't fix.
This will sit until Monday now to give the JB Weld time to cure properly. I used the Kwik version, but I'm not going to take any chances. I've used JB Weld on my stock radiator for about 6 months and never had any problems with it leaking. This just needs to hold for a couple weeks until I get back to the states.
But she started right and ran with only minimal issue - gotta cut the lower timing cover due to some clearance issues with the longer bolt I used on the tensioner. So here she sits until Monday!

Thanks Steve! You should probably change your sig on here though.....
It got inspected, failed, and then while it was torn apart in my driveway, it magically passed. Gotta love hookups! Trying to get in order to go the track one last time before she ships. I would love to change an alternator and be running again.

Thanks! For me, half the build is in the looks. There's no point in putting a huge power mod on the car if it looks half-assed and dirty when you pop the hood. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to stuff like that I guess.

LOL - she's not going on the dyno again until I get k-pro. The only numbers I should be seeing is when she goes to the strip next weekend!
