Vid sucks balls, Clint. +1 for dusting that Rover wagon or whatever it was, though. Leave them Brits guessing. Just kidding... congrats on having a beast of a car.

I have low boost and an EM and ARP studs. WORTH IT. I blew my HG on 7psi before and last I checked anything under 10psi is really considered low boost.

So. LOL.
Been hearing a funny noise since driving to York this past weekend. Sounds like a belt squealing once the car warms up to full operating temp. Futzed with the tension on the alt and the PS belts. No real change. Pulled the PS belt off last night and drove to work this morning.
Noise was still there. Cool. Must be the alternator belt then.
Got home, started futzing with the tension of the alternator belt. No change. Pulled the alternator belt off completely. Started the car. Still have the noise.
Heheh.
Car is up on jackstands, so while it's running and squealing, I push the clutch in and out. No change to noise pattern or frequency. I put it in gear and give it light throttle. No change to noise pattern or frequency. I mean, it changes with the engine revs obviously, but is not affected by being in gear or not. This probably rules out tranny and clutch.
I poke my head around the car to try to determine where the noise is originating from. Noise is coming from right under the number 4 area of the oil pan.
LOL. I knew this was coming.
I think I probably spun a bearing on her. Good times! Not this comes as any surprise to me given the power that is going to the stock gut. So now it's just a matter of how to handle it.
Pistons are here, rods are en route. I have a completely bare block sitting next to me - no crank, just an empty block and girdle with a water pump and timing cog on it. The question is do I fuck with it now or just run it gently.
The bottom end of the motor that's in it right now is garbage. I'm pushing coolant again, so that's tells me the block is probably a little warped. I'm not too concerned about sending a rod through the side of it.
Here's what I'm thinking about doing. Babying it until it goes back on a boat to the states. I leave for 90 days at the end of March. Come back in late June/early July and we have family visiting the first two weeks and are going on vacation the last two weeks of July. In August we start clearing and getting our stuff packed and sent back to the states. I also go for training for a week before I leave in March. Basically the car has to last for about 25 more days of driving and make it from the port to my new house in NC. I'm thinking about driving it real easy until then and hope it makes it.
If it doesn't make it, so be it, it gets ripped apart when I get back in late summer and I build the bottom end before I leave.
If it does make it, it gets ripped apart as soon as I get back to the states this fall.
Either way, this surprisingly isn't that catastrophic. Hell, I may pull the pan off this weekend be pleasantly surprised. I doubt it, but I can always hope!

welcome to my world, i spun my number one bearing, but it was a clicking, and when i pulled the engine there ended up being about 1\4 inch play between the rod and crack lol....but some mis read my engine swap as an attempt to make the world's fastest seed spreader:

Yeah, like I said, I'm not too terribly worried about it. I'm debating pulling the tranny and FW off if I don't see anything when I take the oil pan off Friday night. If I lived in the states I'd be down at a pick and pull tomorrow and have the engine swapped out by Sunday night, back on the road with a stock head and cam. But not here in the UK. Oh well.

That sounds different then a bearing but I still wouldnt rule that out. If you dont see anything in the pan you may want to look at the water pump and t-belt tensioner too. Maybe one of them is siezed or something.

It does sound different than a bearing but it's definitely coming from either right under #4 or very near to where the tranny mates up to the engine. I was underneath the car sticking my ear to the oil pan in different places (don't try this at home, kids) to try and pinpoint it.
Kicker is that it does not make this noise when it's cold. Only after it warms up past 170F on the coolant gauge.

But while looking at engines on Ebay that I can't buy, I did stumble across this. I'd buy it if it didn't clash with the color scheme I have! Yes it's true. I'm 31 years old and still play video games and play with cars.

Yeah, that's Friday night's job. That way I have all weekend to fuck with it being up on jackstands. Who knows. Maybe it's the a whistle tip! I'll bet Bubb Rubb and lil Sis snuck into my garage and put a decoration on my car!
