Good idea Chris, but that shit is expensive over here!
It's been up on jackstands for the past month, but it does go in and out of gear and the clutch engages and disengages. Good idea though. Before starting the car for the 1st time the other night, I rotated it over a few times by hand to make sure nothing silly had happened.
I'm excited as fuck, March!
OK so here's some pics of what I got done today.
Post-Install Clean-Up Day 2
Since I had some weird coolant loop between the TB and the turbo, I figured I didn't install my water lines correctly. Piggybacking off the TB lines may work in a pinch, but it's much better to come in off the main coolant line, relatively close to the pump. Yes boilermaker1, I finally did what you had initially advised me to!
I also touched hot stove burners and stuck keys in wall sockets as a child, even after being told it was dangerous and would hurt. I guess I need to try things myself before I listen to folks! Drives my wife up the wall.
Anyway, so I drained out all my coolant - again - and pulled the initial hard line off the block. The one on the side, not the one in the back. I drilled a hole in it like so:
Then tapped it for my 3/8" nipple. The nipple was too long. That is the only time you should ever say that sentence. Anyway I threaded it in, trying to keep in line with the direction of the coolant flow as much as possible.
The I threw some JB Weld around it and cinched 'er down! She likes it when I'm rough.
I'm using the JB Weld Kwik version so I only had to let it cure for 45 minutes or so. While it was curing, I fixed my catch can routing. Basically all I had to do was pull the T-joint out and put a joiner in. Pretty simple stuff. I've got a breather filter on the way that should be here Tuesday.
Here's the completed inlet line and you can see the joiner as well. I just need to get a Y-joint to plumb the water return line from the turbo into the TB return line right there on the water neck. I have extra T-joints, but I think that would disrupt the flow too much.
From there it was time to tidy up the mess I had made out of the wiring loom. This was a mild booger, but not too difficult. I spent some time tucking the old A/C wiring harness, fan plugs, and headlight wiring as well.
Then I re-installed the windshield trim, wipers, and hood, and also re-routed my WG vac line because I'm anal like that.
Other than that, I slathered some more exhaust putty on the DP to UP joint so I don't choke myself out tomorrow when I run the next idle datalog, and played with the hood latch to get it where I wanted it.
Then I mowed the rest of the lawn and washed momma's truck. You know, I think I get more rest during the week than I do on the weekends!
