Every day is Earth Day. Remember that.
So we all piled into the Civic to go over to Joe and Linda's place to have some dinner and play with Jack. I was all set to go tooling around, boosting like a maniac, because it's fun. I whomp on the gas and get nothin'.
WTF over?
Try it again and I notice that the exhaust noise gets a bit louder but still no boost.
Yup. I know what happened. My catalytic converter used to sound like a maraca from all the crap blown loose inside of it. Well it looks like it knocked around in there enough to pretty much clog up the exhaust. I was fine driving in vac to Joe's house and back, but this is not how want to drive around on a regular basis. Plus I didn't want my turbo to end up looking like boiler's on his first day at the track after his install. Compressor surge sucks.
I limp it to Joe's and back, clean up the garage a bit, and then pull off the exhaust to take a look. I bored out some of the catalyst with a big Forstner bit since I knew I had to some of it out.
Hmm... Looks like there's some shit stuck down in there. Let's take a closer look.
Yup. Looks like a bunch of the ceramic catalyst is clogging things up. Let's scrape some of it out the way to see if we can't get those big pieces out.
Hmm. Still not all coming out. I've about had it. Time to get out the scraper and get rid of this all shit.
Bye bye pollution reducing catalyst.
Hello free flowing cat and check engine light!!
Sure it will be louder and cause for pollution, but that's what souping up cars is all about!! Plus I've got the new cat ready to go as soon as I fab up the downpipe. Hopefully I'll get some time to do that this week.
It's been a rough weekend for the old dick skinners though. I need to invest in a new pair of gloves. I've worn out mine out.
