Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

sorry diemaster lol. yeah i bet the abs wire is extra, they just used one wire harness for every car. kinda like how the dx without tach still has an rpm signal wire. anyway for your canada 05 dx, the abs wire is blu/red like i said. so try grounding that to the car body and see what happens. Speaking of all this cluster swapage... I sold a 03 MT COUPE LX cluster to Diemaster that everyone thought was an EX, turns out its an LX... Its in his possession right now as its been paid for. I will be refunding his payment... If anyones interested in it, I'll have him send it out to you to save on having to ship it back to me. Let us know. Link to forsale thread is in my sig- although pictures arent up anymore, dimaster should have some.

So your suggesting that i Ground out the Blue/RED stripe to the chassie and then plug the wire back into the connector? because i've tried unplugging it and the light's still there. But if you unplug it and ground it out, wouldn't the ABS light still just stay on?

Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

with regards to splicing the yellow black wire from the green into the blue. which red white wire is used? the one originally from the green connector or the blue? and what happens to this wire after it is cut?

accoring to the diagram:

there appears to be 2 x white red wires; one from green [15] connector and blue [1] connector.

and both are later plugged into green-17. is that right? or one is not used at all and if so which one.

according to taz757
http://cluster.dirtysamurai.com/

he mentions :
Quote:
What I did was clip off the extra white/red wire, since it was long, and then spliced it into the yellow/black wire. That way it'll reach over there. Remind them that if they do that, they need to cap off the white/red since it's a 12v constant wire.

in other words,
the diagrams also show a white red wire in position Blue1 and position Green15 in the VP diagrams but only once in the EX diagrams at position Green17, so which wire goes to Green 17? Do you twist them together?

could anyone clarify this ? thank you.

for the two white/red wires if anyone else has that question, they are the same thing. you only need to pick one to move to green 17 spot. they both come from the same place.

Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

Pin Popping made easy [ easier than disconnecting the batter which took me forever]

no pushing, pulling with gruntin' or sweatin'

1. jumbo size paper clip or one that will fit just enough, but not too lose
2. and a pair of needle nose pliers [if you're wearing gloves due the freezing temp here in canada]

technique.

1. don't need to angle paper clip, just insert paper clip until you feel a subtle gentle click, you will feel it: this is the locking mechanism of the tab unlocking. [your paper clip will stick inside the clip, don't worry about it falling off.

2. using your needle nose plier gently grasp the wire and pull even more gently it will pop and you paper clip will drop. out comes the pins.

i can't believe it! after all these years and plenty of successful swaps, there are still people who have difficulty doing it.

i'll let you all know if i ever decide to get rid of my web hosting. someone should back up the site.

I'm actually liking what you did for your retrofit with the leveler, gearbox. I didn't want to figure it out on my retrofits so I just shimmed them with washers (I think?).

I kind of miss the Civic, but at the same time, I really don't. WRX > Civic lol.

Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

Have 2003 Civic (4 door Sdn) auto trans from the US (I think it’s an LX)
Okay I’m wondering if I can get a hand.
I did the cluster swap on our Civic not so much to have cool looking new gauges but because we live in Canada and we had a MPH unit in the car. So we wanted to switch to a KPH unit.
I got a great deal on a setup and it came with the old wires cut but still attached, so I just followed the video tutorial on how to pop the pins out (great vid by the way I was having a terrible time figuring it out on my own).
Once all the wires were out I just put the ones in the car in the same order as the harness that came with the new gauge cluster set. However I noticed that I did not have several wires in my car. My factory harness does not have the following wires that the cut unit did have:

On Green:
Red wire / white stripe (silver blotches)
White wire / blue stripe (silver blotches)
White wire /red stripe

On Blue:
Red wire / green stripe (silver blotches)

And I had three wires left over that I didn’t know where they went as these wires were not on the unit that I purchased to put in:
Red wire / yellow stripe
Blue wire / yellow stripe
Black wire / red stripe

Can anyone help me figure out what to put where?

To help understand here is the unit I had in the car:

And this is the unit I put into the car:

Ok I guess I'm a little slow on the uptake, I found the charts on page 4 got just about everything worked out.
I have 1 blue wire with a yellow stripe left over and I don't know where it goes. I think it's my cruise control light. As cruise works but the light doesn't come on when I'm using it.

Any suggestions?

try working backwards from these as these were my notes for the install from and older dx non-tach swap to the one you have but in km/h.:

Quote:
red/wht (gauges and indicators)
wht/blu (headlights)

blu/red is interesting, youre not supposed to have a wire there for 03-05 dx, but 01-02 dx it shows a wire in that spot for ABS.

check the wire diagram pinouts to see where they move to. for the green connector, red/wht is number 1 on your plug and needs to be moved to number 10, still on the green plug. number 13 wht/blu stays in the same spot on the green connector! do not move it.

for the blue connector, number 18 blu/red ABS gets moved to number 14 on the GREEN plug, as the diagram shows. i think you just missed this one.
re: red green wire [again work backwards]
Quote:
“ok shit i missed one RED GREEN from the BLUE Connector an idea what and where it goes?”

“i was wondering when you would ask, since its another canada-only wire (for headlights). red/grn is number 9 in the blue plug (this would have been red/yel as the diagram shows IF you had an 01-03 civic dx and not 04-05 civic dx). this wire needs to be moved to number 1 on the blue connector. your red/grn wire is the same as the red/yel wire in the diagrams, except it has a different function.”
also you know your new gauges are not LED's right? that's one of the old ones that everyone in this thread is trying to get rid of. i would just keep current one and look around for the km/h.

canada is a whole different mess to work with. you know they make that same cluster with kph right?but anyway, here are the wires.

green plug

red/wht is for the canada only 'low washer fluid' light
wht/blu is canada only for the DRL (daytime running lights) control unit
wht/red is hot power from the fuse box that controls most of the gauge meters and power circuits as well as the beeper.

blue plug

red/grn is canada only for the headlights

leftovers

red/yel is canada for headlights (replaced by red/grn on newer models)
blu/yel is cruise control
blk/red is auto trans gear indicator

now lets figure out where they go. use these diagrams...

green plug

red/wht needs to move from pin 10 to pin 1.
wht/blu does not need to move, keep in pin 13.
wht/red needs to move from pin 17 to pin 15 as shown already

blue plug

red/grn moves from pin 1 to pin 9

leftovers

red/yel is the same as red/grn. 03 canada civic used red/yel, 04 canada civic used red/grn

blu/yel moves from pin 12 to pin 19
blk/red moves from pin 16 to pin 8 (auto trans only, leave disconnected for manual)

Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

First off
Thanks a million for replying this thread it old and it just keeps on going!
Alright I moved the wires you suggested and now I have
1 Pink wire not connected to anything and the blu/yellow where I had it previously

Next on the GREEN PLUG
I do not have:
white/red
white/blue
red/white

I do have 1 white/red on the blue plug (with silver blotches on it) but it's in the far corner and appears as though it's supposed to be there but then I don't have any for the green plug.
Do I need to splice into the white/red on the blue and add it to the green plug?
And what about the red/white and the blue/white that I don't have on the green?
Do I just leave the pink wire unconnected?

Thanks again

Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

well first of all, is the cluster working properly? are all the icon lights coming on like they should when you first turn the car on? some wires are redundant or not used depending on the model. so dont worry about using them all unless theres a problem.

pink wire is for the SRS (airbag). it should have previously been in the GREEN plug in pin 2, but you need to move it to the BLUE plug in pin 19.

for the wires you do not have, thats okay. as long as the headlights work properly and the gauge lights too, then you should be fine. the gauge needles all move right?

white/red is for the gauge needles to work. white/blue is for the drl to work. does drl work? should be the hi beam coming on at 1/2 power when the car is started. red/wht is for the low washer fluid light, which i guess you wont know til the fluid drops down to a certain point. this car was made in canada and not the usa right?

Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

Roger I moved the pink wire back to the blue plug and put the blue yellow on the green.
The cluster appears to be all operational. When i turn the car on most of the lights appear on the dash and then go out if not supposed to be on (except the check engine light came on in this whole process and so far has stayed on).
The Car is a US car with a Canadian Cluster put into it.

As for the DRL if I don't turn the switch on the steering wheel on the lights don't come on (none at all exterior). But if I turn the switch on manually then the hi beams and low beams work along with the yellow lights on the sides.

I still have no light on for my cruise control when it is working.
It does work but there is no dash indication that it is working.

Thanks again for all the help I feel like I'm SOOOOO close to having this all tweaked.

ah okay! so its really a usa car. that explains why some of the wires are missing. and why you do not have a drl system at all. those only came on canada cars since its mandatory up there. try to hook up what you have, but i wouldnt worry if a few icons dont work. its possible the cruise icon may be burnt out, check the bulb in back of the icon. the engine light should not be on, unless its a coincidence and you actually have a problem. see if auto store can read the code for you.

Oh I never thought of a burnt out bulb.
Where abouts do I look for the bulb to be?
What I mean to say is where should the cruise light appear on the unit, so I know where to look on the back of it?

Yea other than the cruise I think everything works. Except the running lights don't turn on unless I manually flip the switch and turn them on (on the steering wheel). I can't seem to remember if it's always been that way though.
Also I used to adjust the brightness of the cluster on the dash of the car near the vent on the driver's side, now I do it on the cluster and it seems not as bright. That may be because it's not LED?

bulb socket is in the rear of the cluster and twists off. take a flashlight and look at the icons to see where the cruise would be. i cant remember off hand. the daytime lights are not standard if the car was from the usa originally, so you will have to turn them on manually. yeah the old bulb style clusters are nowhere near as bright as the led clusters. whatever the max setting is, thats all the brightness you get. there are only 5 backlight bulbs and you can easily tell if one goes out, cause there will be a large dark spot.

Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

The cruise light is the blue/yellow wire for the green plug and I believe it goes to the original green 19. I had to trial and error this. If it isn't 19 then its 18. I went back to the original cluster in my 01. I had to look at the diagram and work backwards. I like the big faced gauges better.

You guys ROCK!
Switched the wire, checked the bulbs turns out I was missiong one. Got it all fixed everything seems to be in top notch working order.

I have noticed that if I leave the headlights on and turn the car off, and get out of the car the alarm doesn't go off any more but that could just be a fuse yea?

Other than that I think we got this thing installed.
If anyone wants to buy a used USA LED Blue Dash cluster from a 2003 Civic Sedan auto, I might be able to let it go for $100 US and depending on where you live or how fast you want it I might be able to throw in free shipping.

The cluster has 91,892 miles on it.

Re: 01-03 to 04-05 Gauge Cluster Swap: DONE! Pics inside w/ Pin removing FAQ & Video

Hey guys I just swapped my 2002 coupe LX Manual trans cluster for a 2004 Coupe manual trans cluster. The 04 of course looks amazing. All went well and I ended up with the red/white wire left over as planned.

If anybody is looking for a 2002 coupe LX cluster for a manual trans (103,XXX miles)let me know. I'd be happy to sell mine for a fair price. I'll also be putting it up on ebay, I'll post a link when I do.
