My '01 Civic Sedan Has a Sore Rear...

No, that moon isn't for you all. It is for the little piece of metal on the freeway that flattened my drivers side rear tire and tore a 12 inch hole in my rear bumper cover. I will add pics later. Just curious. How hard of a job would it be to install the bumper myself and is it wise to buy painted bumpers on eBay? The Honda body shop here quoted me around $600 for a new bumper installed. If i do it myself, i can save about 400 of that. What do you think? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

if your paint skills were good yes it may be worth it sometimes you can even get painted bumpers for cheap prices that are worthwhile but if insurance is covering it possibly because of road hazard it would be better off that way

just buy it on ebay.. it'll be easy just go in order. you'll save some major cash.. and don't go through insurance.. unless you want to pay 500 for a deductable and have your insurance go up.. which is really stupid if you go with that choice.

My rear bumper was cracked on my civic and I found a local body shop (not honda but known for doing good work) that quoted me just over $300 to have it replaced and painted. Still not as cheep as the painted ones on ebay but the body shop might be able to blend the colors a little bit better.

I ordered one off of eBay yesterday and will get it in just over a week. I will post before pics tommorrow and after pics when its done. I don't work on my own car much. Just change oil and ive successfully changed my brakes in the past. You say 5 minutes? Where are the bolts or rivets located at? I'm a sucker for illustrations if anyone can provide them

folks who work on their cars can back me up here- modern cars mainly just pop together. the front and read bumper pretty much just pop on, as do MANY of the interior panels. It's really not that hard to work on these things, just get a screwdriver and take your time. With the hood up I could remove the entire front of my blazer by hand in about 30 seconds (headlights and all)

Here is a before I hate freak occurances.

I will post after-pics when the new bumper is installed. Oh, by the way, the metal ripped through with such force, it pulled the middle rivets right out and bent the reinforcements that held the bumper to the underside of the car.
