Bomex Civic Totaled New Year's Eve...

Well.

I'm a moron.

So let me get that out before all the ensuing posts explaining that to me because I'm well aware of it...

So yeah. The Civic is totaled and I was arrested. New Year's Eve, leaving a friend's house after drinking for a few hours at about 2:30am, I fell asleep at the wheel in a residential area and collided with a parked van on the side of the road. Woke up in the middle of the car with my hand bleeding and a nasty headache. Had to climb out the passenger-side door.

I hit the van on the passenger side ripping the whole stru assembly out of the car and horribly mutilating the front wheel. Front frame and radiator is all kinds of twisted, engine is fine, windshield is cracked, headlight is destroyed. Fender is crushed, both doors barely open. My lower interior center console is pulled back (!?), both airbags deployed and my passenger side floorboard is out.

I got out of it with minor injuries. A nasty deep cut on my right hand between my index and middle fingers. Some more cuts and scrapes on the same hand and arm. I nasty bump and bruise on the left side of my head. Sore left should and front of neck where I guess my seatbelt got me. Both my knees cut up and bruised.

I got arrested, spent 13 hours in jail on DUI and I have court on February 10th. Who knows what will happen considering I was 13 days away from being off my 3 month probation I got at the end of September for underage possession of alcohol.

I'll get pics up here when I get them developed. We went and took them today.

To all of you reading this, be safe. i'm 20, I always thought 'it couldn't happen to me', and now look. I should be dead, but my life is pretty much over.

Happy New Year.

-Steve

Holy sh!t dude.... you're lucky you hit a parked car and nobody got seriously hurt of even killed.

Lesson learned though. Some people find out the hard way....
Anyways, glad you're ok and I hope everything works out for you...

Life goes on. We have all done some really stupid things. The trick in life is to learn from them. I don't know you, but am glad you are OK, and most importantly that you did not hurt an innocent person. So you totalled your car. Cars can be replaced, life cannot. Gives you something to think about.
Reading this, I just amazes me how easely you could have prevented the whole thing. Ever heard of crashing at a friends house?
Yeah, I've been there. At least I was smart enough to know that I could not "handle it". Slept on more than one sofa in my life.

Be well, there's always another car. Good luck to you.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I dont think the DUI punishments are nearly as severe as they should be. Especially the ones with multiple offenses

Hand's okay. Just a really deep cut, and some other minor scratches and bruises. Everything's fine.

Simeon...I'm sorry your dad died from a drunk driver, but *I* didn't kill him. Get off my ass. I've met you once and that's all I need to see you again. The way you carry yourself on this site is the same as you carry yourself in person. Everything Brian said.

I don't drink to be "cool." I drink because I enjoyed it. I obviously didn't enjoy that night very much and I made a stupid mistake. You're a hypocrite. Why do you mod your car? The way you talk it up it seems like you only do it so other people will think you're 'tight.' Get over yourself. Do you street race? I bet you do. Guess what, punk? Street racing kills people, too.

Get off your high horse.

Thumbs down

I'm sorry, but I hate people that do this. If, since it was New Year's and all, you knew you were going to be drinking, then why did you drive to your destination? You could have taken a bus or a cab or even had someone that wasn't drinking drive you. Or if you absolutely had to drive yourself there, why didn't you put your keys in a safe place before you started drinking where you couldn't find them while you were drunk? People like you need to take responsibility for these actions, this is EXACTLY why young drivers get a bad rap and pay high insurance. I'm not trying to pick on you in particular, but people that behave like this. Other people make plans in advance, why couldn't you? You are VERY lucky that you didn't kill or injure someone in the process. It's really quite simple, if you're going to be drinking, then don't drive! It isn't that hard, you just don't drive your car beforehand! Since you were at a friends house drinking, why didn't you stay overnight and sleep off the liquor? I know I'm repeating my sentiments now, but honestly, I have absoultely no respect for people that do this. Sure, you feel bad for it now, but that's only because something happened. I honestly doubt you would have cared if you drove home drunk and had nothing happen... Sure, that isn't a big deal when nothing happens, but it doesn't mean it isn't wrong...

P.S. I'm glad you're ok, and that you didn't hurt or kill anyone else, but you aren't a little child that has to be told right from wrong, you should know what you should have done...

Man, I feel for you. I'm sorry that your are having to go through this. Glad your OK, and hope everything works out.

For all of you who feel the need to get on here and trash what he did with all the "What if's"
What if there were people, what if you were going faster.....

What if he made it home fine.....then you would have nothing to bitch about.

Good luck man.

I'm waiting on the insurance appraisel on whether or not they're going to total the car out. I'm pretty sure they are, and if they do, I will put the taillights up for sale. I was gonna sell the rear bumper, as well, since it wasn't damaged in the accident, but the tow truck was careless with dropping it and about ripped it in half.

Three of my wheels are all right, I dunno if anyone would want three wheels, but...

Thanks, JJF and Joey.
