Re: Do It Yourself Spring Install - Detailed Info & Pics
I just used this DIY and it is a great DIY, however, I had a lot of trouble getting the bolt on the bottom of the rear strut back installed until I removed the bolt for the upper arm above the brake rotor. I could not get the holes to line up on the bottom of the shock. The service manual I got said to use a floor jack to load the suspension but there was no to get it in there to lift the shock AND put it in the slot.
Getting the bottom arm to lower a bit more was perfect.
ps. This was on KYB replacement shocks using OEM springs on a 2001 Civic EX Coupe.

thanks glad to see this write up is still being used. just a month before writing this, I didn't know a thing about suspensions or even mechanical work in general. Just goes to show how much you really can learn off the internet. Just trying to help spread the knowledge!
Re: Do It Yourself Spring Install - Detailed Info & Pics
First of all I’d like to say thanks for the DIY thread. It was very helpful especially w/ the pictures. I’ve installed a set of H&R sport on my '05 Civic Dx (4 dr.). I have one lil problem though when I drive and hit a small bump or even a small crack on the pavement. I hear a knocking sound on both front struts. Also when I turn I hear a binding/popping sound. I've positioned the arrow on the upper spring seat facing towards the wheel as illustrated on Step 19 but still no success. What could be the problem? I didn’t cut the bump stops as mentioned here. Could that be the cause of the knocking sound while driving slowly and hitting a small bump? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Knocking sound - Most likely the nuts that tighten down the struts via the upper mount are not tight.
Binding/Popping sound - Seated incorrectly, or you need some thick grease to grease the upper mounts and where the spring sits.

Hi,
im placing a kw kit for the moment, but i have troubles to loosen the rear supension, its that 17mm bolt, i just canot get it loose.
Or is it realy that hard to get it out? or do you have to give it a very hard pull?
or should it help warming op the nut a bit?
