Suspension still good? Should I get stock or something else?

Hey My 96' civic lx 4 door with 183 000km on it is feeling bouncy lately, I don't know if it's just me or if the shocks are going. It still has to orginal shocks.

Should I change my shocks or wait till something happens (wait till what?)? Also I drive fast and push my car to the limit all the time, but I liked the way the stock shocks performed. Should I go back to stock or get something after market (price is an issue of course, but also is performece).

Also I was thinking of getting my civic lowered maybe an inche maximum, but I don't know if thats a smart thing to do since my mud gards already rub on the ground when I take sharp curves with the stock springs.

Any sugestions on what I should do?

BTW I still have the stock 13" steelies and will have them probably for another summer until my tires wear out.

thats about 100k miles right? uh then i think its time for new shocks...shocks for your car arent nearly as expensive as it is for our car. you should be able to find tokico's or kyb's for like $200-$300. have you ever thought about removing the mud guards? i think the springs on your car are also softer then ours. if you are looking for better performance then ya i would lower the car with maybe like the eibach prokit and some tokico's. it should get rid of the bouncy ride and it should handle much better cause it sounds like your suspension is really soft hearing that the mud guards scrape when you take a turn(i'm guessing your taking them fast tho).

Thats around 105-110k miles. And yeah the front mud gaurds only rub when I take the curves really fast. I thought of taknig them off, but arn't they there for a reason? I'm a complete newbie at this (first car).

ya they are there for a reason.. "mud guard"... what do you think of when you hear/see it? all it does is prevent mud/dirt flinging onto your car...
i dont have one and 99% of the members here dont have one. if they had one, they took it off... if you like it then leave it but i personally think it looks ugly, unless if its a rally car...

What I was scared about without the mud gaurds mostly is rocks flying up and chipping the paint.

ya i guess it's possible but not likely.. i dont have any chips on the side of my car. i dunno its your car and its up to you but if you see, most cars dont have mud guards... you might see it on bigger cars like SUVs and those "mini SUVs" but cars hardly have any.
