Hey...what's da best place to rent a spring compressor? I want to lower my car with some Tanabe Super Down Precedo springs without getting ripped off by car shops.
i know autozone and pep boys rent out spring compressers but they arent that easy to use... only thing good about it is its free to rent it. all you need is a deposit.
I'm going to be installing some Goldlines next week. Anybody thats installed thier own springs...could you list all the tools involved in the install? And what is a good jack to get for this?
hey VnlilMAN what a great help u gave us newbies to this wonderful world of honda civic,,i do have to say your help was clearly written to the simplest way to undersatnd ( i is a college student ) LOL but anyway,, you dont have to loosen the top strut bolt untill the strut is on a vice ( just put the top part of the strut sideway on a vice), a tire to hold the caliper seems to be the ideal cause nothin else worked for me..becarefull how the caliper turning once its hanging loose cause it can missalign the CV joint and it wont go back to the bottom of the strut no matter what you do..it took me(myself) a good 12 hrs for the job but the reward is fabulous,my coupe feels rock solid at 115mph (in a safe straight hwy) ,,it also help on braking by eliminating nose dive..thanx again for the help,,God bless U
glad it helped... n ya there are many ghetto ways to get the spring out... i've heard of people letting it shoot into a bucket, covered it in a towel and put a tire at the end, step on the springs with your feet, etc... i just mentioned the safest way and thats using a spring compresser. and about the cv joint, i was afraid this was going to happen to me, it happened to someone here, he had to open up his cv joint, pack it with grease, buy some new bands to tie it closed. it just didn't sound like something i was capable of so yes please be careful and dont let that happen to you(you as in the person doing the install).
When trying to remove the rear strut in a sedan...where are the bolts??
I did the front last night, with little effort, thanks to your DIY!
hrm...
I've looked under the carpet stuff in the trunk, but there's no bolts there Is it behind that little sliver of a seat? I've folded down the seats, but there's still a bit left on the sides...anybody?
Could you list the tools and measurements of the tools needed?
How big is the allen key? I don't own any allen keys at the moment ( they all got lost ) so I need to know which size to buy.
I currently have Neuspeed Sport Lowering Springs (4 door) and Konis installed.
I'm getting the 2 door springs for the rear in on monday. I'm going to put them in myself and i'm wondering if I'm going to have to align it after putting in those springs. It is going to drop a little bit, but not much. I'm assuming I will have to align it.
And about putting in the springs, do they have to go in any special way? ( imagine rotating the spring on the perch )
Also, I've been told the Konis have an adjustable rear perch. How would I adjust that?
I'm sure these questions are all easily answerable once dismantling the rear struts, but it never hurts to ask.
Thanks for the help. I will take pictures, but I'm only doing the rear.
allen key, i'll check it later if i'm not lazy...
spring.. you'll see a groove on the bottom perch, thats where the end of the spring should be...
koni... i think you had to buy the adjustable perch one(if they even make one that is)
alignment... its alway recommended but i never did it... but hey all you need is a 2 wheel and not 4 wheel this time so...
never got my car aligned after i lowered my car... my car was going straight and i had stock wheels anyways so i didn't care.. now i have 18s so maybe its a good idea to get it done..
Your car WILL go straight if you need camber adjustments. The only time it won't go straight is when you need TOE adjustments. When you lower your car usually only the camber is effected, not the TOE. You might want to get that done.
I forgot to take pics. : ( It was easy enough. I have Konis ( that i didn't install myself ) so when I was removing them and trying to get the spring off them I couldn't find the part for the Allen Key that you mentioned. That's the only part I got stuck on. There was no allen screw with the Konis.
