spring question

Alright, well I haven't visited this site in a while but my question is:

I took my car [2002 civic ex coupe] to get state [Maryland] inspected for registration and was told I need to have stock springs/struts. I lowered my car maybe 3 years ago and we don't have the original springs. My question is...does that sound right? Needing to have the stock springs and struts. The inspector said that the reason he marked it was b/c the ride was stiff and they were obviously aftermarket.

Second question is that if I do need to find stock parts...anybody have any suggestions on places to get them [online/offline]? I'm in Maryland, so if any of you happen to be lowering and you have the stock parts, I can take them off your hands. And like everything in Maryland...need to have them soon to meet the deadline.

Re: spring question

Yes, I have to agree I think its BS too...after some thought I might try taking it elsewhere...maybe buying springs if its cheap but personally I don't want to "raise" my car. After reading the article - that reminds me...they said it also failed because my tint was possibly too dark. I'm pretty sure its not - I had it done in California and from what I know, they are pretty strict there.

I'm definitely making some calls before I make an unnecessary purchases.

Re: spring question

the ride is stiff?? hahaha. a stock rsx is rougher than my lowered civic with aftermarket shocks and higher psi in the tires. you should ride in stock cars that have big rims 16+ and then come tell us what a stiff ride feels like. that guy has no idea about anything. go back there and tell him you had a mechanic check it and he said they are the stock springs. lol.

Re: spring question

ha, I know. I laughed at him. But of course, me having taken the car after work and being tired...I just didn't want to argue with his BS. Not to mention, they seemed to role their eyes whenever I argued a point - go figure that a girl actually knows something. I'm most likely taking my car savvy father-in-law with me when I make my second trip there or elsewhere. The one thing that I do need to fix, which I knew before but was hoping they would oversee it was the windshield, but that's not a big deal.

Re: spring question

Yup.
I've always wanted it to look mostly stock...mainly for that very reason - didn't want to deal with bs.

Re: spring question

As far as I know, you don't need to be a certain height to pass MD inspection. If you want to borrow my stock suspension, you can (I don't know how far away you live).

Re: spring question

Well, I called the MVA and spoke to a state police officer, the lowering springs do not necessarily make the car fail. So I'm going to get the local officer in charge of inspections in my area to check out my car. [metalviper thanks for that link]

But, robbclark1 if I do need the springs, I'll definitely take you up on your offer if its still there. I work in Rockville, so I'm right next door to you.
