tire advice

Well my main bag is ICE .... so the tires thing I really don't know much about.

Hence when I got my car I got some damn cool factory rims so I wouldn't need to deal with swapping them and all that jazz.

Anyhow .... heres the deal. Inspection is next month and I need new tires. I have over 30k on the originals from when I bought it new.

I am looking for suggestions on what I should get for tires and what I should expect to pay.

I live in upstate New York ..... so that also factors into the mix. I need good all seasons .... or a set of winter tires on regular rims and good summer tires for my rims.

From what I read this is going to cost me about $600 and many seem to like the Potenza's and the Firehawk's .... but I think they are just a summer type tire.

Thanks for the help guys ..... look at my website to see my rims, I think they are 17" factory ..... or maybe 15" factory rims.

Those are factory 15" rims. Thus tires can be had for cheap.... not $600... Probably not even $400. Bridgestone Potenza RE950s are about as good as allseaons get, and they're $71 in stock size from tirerack.com. I'd suggest you go to Tire Rack's website, search the size, and read the tire ratings and reviews, then go from there. Use the tire calculator on this site (menu bar), there are some wider 15" sizes you can upgrade to if you want.

whats the width of the factory wheel? 5?5.5?6? 6.5?

that will determin how wide of a tire you can run.

666 is an unknown quantity at this point
The rim size is 15X6, I would stick with the factory 185/65-15's but if you want a little extra grip try a 195 width. If you go any wider it may look weird because the tire will be so wide and the rim so narrow, sort of like a truck tire. By the way, what part of up-state New York are you from?

Looking at tire rack the Potenza's would be around $71 a peice.

How are these in snow?

Should I just get the Potenza's now for about $350 and then crap rims + Blizzack's for about $400 later this fall ????

From what I know and have felt... the 950s are solid in the snow. I've ridden in my friend's car with them in the snow (not much, but enough to make it interesting) and the car was pretty stable in the slippery stuff. If you only plan on getting one set of tires for all year... those would be a good choice.

I would suggest going wider than stock for additional traction on the safe side. 195 or 205. If you're concerned about it "looking weird", then get a 60 profile instead of a 65.

Stock rims are 15X6.

BTW, there are different kinds of Potenza models. You should verify which one it is you're talking about.
