What is the chance of tire blow out?

I took a road trip this weekend and noticed alot of the remains of old tire blow outs. I was wondering does anyone no what the chance of tire blow out would be with low profile tires

If your tire pressure is ok, and you do not hit many bumps, there is not much chance of blowout.

A sad story:

I was driving up to Vegas. Looking for a little R & R. At the last moment I noticed something in the road but could not swerve fast enough to avoid it. I heard a loud pop and felt the car immediately start pulling.

Turns out I ran over a brake pad. It had completely punctured the tire. Low profile tires have stiffer sidewalls. Even though the tire had a 3 inch long cut in it, the tire did not shred. And since the vehicle had a much less amount to drop, the car did not swerve too much, just really pulled to the right.

This was the only blow out I ever had, and it was pretty tame. I threw on my spare and went to get another tire. The rim did not even sustain any damage.
