Are 225/50 R16s to wide?

My brother just gave a practically new set of 225/50 R16 x7 tires and rims. I checked the tire calc and the variation is only 1.7% from my original EX´s 185/65 R15, however, I´ve been checking on the member rides and almost nobody installs 225´s.

You think there could be a problem with this tire size, are they too wide? Tires are Michelins and I really want to use them, but don´t want to damage the suspension (original settings, springs, shocks, etc.)

Thanks for help everybody

I have the same size on my car, (which has also been lowered 1" w/Eibach Pro-Kit springs while retaining the stock shocks), and everything is just fine. Before I bought the tires/wheels, I contacted the tech guy at 1010tires.com and asked if the 225's would work, his response was that there would be no problems. Also, in the Feb/March issue of Honda Tuning, there was an article on the Concept 2002 Civic which was developed by Honda. It has 225/40ZR-18's on it! There is no rubbing problems at all and you will notice a huge improvement in grip with the 225's, especially coming from the stock tires. Plus, it looks great on the car! Go for it!

Thanks everybody for the help.

I just got installed a set of 16 inch Momo Quasar 2 rims with the 225/50 michelins. Nothing rubbed and since the car is not dropped, there´s plenty of space. I like how the car looks compared to stock 185´s, now it looks like it has tires instead of rubber bands. I´ll post a picture as soon as I scan some.
