In the sub 20,000 Mile range I cant Recomend the Falken Azenis or the Kumho MX enough.. You would be hard pressed to find a tire that can match these two. They have more in common with a Full Race tire then they do with a "street" tire.. an example of this, the Falken has an extreamly stiff side wall, thanks to Falken putting steel belts in them. another tire that comes close, but is substantually more expensive is the BFGoodrich g-Force KD (Not the KDW)
The falkens have a stiffer side wall and just a bit more girp vs the MX, but the MX handles heat alot better, and would be the better choice between the two for track days.

"I know Solo only comes one minute at a time, but what an intense, non-stop, fast-forward car control exercise minute it is. Sure, the velocity is higher in road racing, but inside the car it is slow-motion in comparison. In Solo, the turns come like machine-gun rounds. "

toyo t1-s, last about 20K.
Dunlop SP9000 aren't bad either, I liked them better than the Yoko Spec2. I did an analysis in our lab on the spec2's compound, not that great, it's a tire for looks IMO.
I used the RA-1, but that's kinda out of this class I think, treadlife was 80(I think), I know they lasted about 5K miles and ran 165 bucks per 13 inch tire.
the RA-1 is along the lines of the Hoosier R3S03 and the Kumho Victoracer/Escta V700.. true that they are Technically DOT legal tires, but I wouldnt want to use most of them on the street for any amount of time... Though it would be REALLY fun.
I run the Azenis for autocross, and the one thing that Impresses me the most about these tires is the stiffness of the side wall.
I agree about the Spec2, tons of Hype not that great of performance...

I like the Potenza S-03. With a treadwear rating of 220, I was able to manage getting 20k out of them thanks to Bridgestone's technology. They will cost you a pretty penny though.
Right now, I stepped down a bit to the RE750s which should last me around 10,000 miles more with the treadwear rating now at 340. I went to the 750s because the S-03s wear too fast for how much I drive and I can't afford another set at the moment.
The S-03s are awesome tires - they've never broken traction on me ever, and on a side note... I also find it a very attractive tire. I probably won't find a better performance tire for dry and rainy days and I plan on getting them again.

^^ if you never broke them loose on a corner then you wernt going fast enough.
the S-03 is a good tire, but it still doesnt have the traction level of the Falken Azenis. (Which BTW costs about $70 for a 205/50-15...) The one place the S-03 may out perform the Azenis is when its wet out. The azenis dont like puddels...

I've spun out in them once, but I can't say at the time, that was a wise move.
Yeah, I would agree with you about the difference in dry/wet traction compared to the Azenis. I wanted to get that tire but it was on backorder.
Never had Nitto's, but from people I've seen with them, they're more show than go. But both those and Spec II's, and the tire I have, still work fine for normal road driving and will give you a huge improvement over a stock type tire. I have the Ventus HRII because I got them for free with the rims I bought.
I personnally like the Falken Ziex ZE-512. I have 215-40-18 on my rims and they handle and grip very well for an All Season tire! Best tires I've ever bought! They're comparable to Ultra High Performance Summer tires that can also grip well in the wet!
