norweejunwood is an unknown quantity at this point
removing clear coat from wheel

I've got stock alloy wheels that are 10 years old and the clear coating is peeling, flaking, and stripping off -- very very slowly and unevenly. Is there some liquid or sanding technique that will allow me to strip it all off so it doesn't look so ugly? Thanks.

Aircraft stripper, wash off, repeat, sand 400 grit, then 800, then 1500-2000 grit. Wash clean, alcohol wipe, re-clearcoat.
Make sure you take the tires off or cover them, rubber doesn't like solvents.
Or take em somewhere and get them powdercoated.
