Honda Civic Si and Honda Civic SiR The Honda Civic Sport Package, better known as the Honda Civic Si is a great base vehicle to start a project. Upgraded components on the Honda Civic Si gave this car a advantage from the start. The Honda Civic SiR is the Canadian version for the Si.

Gear grind on '99 Civic SI

Hello,
I bought a ’99 Civic SI which will not engage in 4th gear. I can press the clutch and pull the shifter into 4th, but as I let up on the clutch it grinds. The car has 123,000 miles and I believe its odd for a Honda manual tranny to have internal issues like this. Any thoughts on how I should start troubleshooting this? The car was hit in the front and put back together poorly (hood and lights and bumpers all misaligned). Could the tranny problem have anything to do with the accident? Could it be a linkage? -Steve

Re: Gear grind on '99 Civic SI

Sounds to me like you've definately got an accident related issue... did you buy the car after it was fixed or before the accident and had it fixed?

Manual tranny's are tough in general but everything has it's weak spot.... Sounds like you have got a bad cog in the tranny as it's probably missing a few teeth which can make it hard to mesh for obvious reasons. Only opening it up will give you any positive answers.

X2 More likely an internal problem inside the tranny.
