Honda Civic Si and Honda Civic SiR The Honda Civic Sport Package, better known as the Honda Civic Si is a great base vehicle to start a project. Upgraded components on the Honda Civic Si gave this car a advantage from the start. The Honda Civic SiR is the Canadian version for the Si.

SiR theft prevention.

hey guys,
I've been told by my insurance company, that SiRs have one of the highest rates of theft out there. So i did some research and to my disappointment its true, although the SiR wasnt specifically mentioned in the link at end of this thread, but through word of mouth SiRs are a frequent target for theft.

My question is,
What precaution are a good measure to prevent your vehicle from being stolen or broken into.
Although parking in a garage is not always an option, we'll leave that one out.

A couple years back i remember a huge rave about an antitheft lockbar that would lock onto your steering wheel, keeping it from turning more than just a few degrees, so even if they hot wired your car, they wouldnt get very far.
it came with its own lock and key. The thought of buying one has crossed my mind a couple times.

Some insurance companies give discounts if your vehicle is equiped with an after market alarm system. Any advice on effective alarm systems?

feel free to share your stories relating to this thread.
thanks for reading.

A thief can simply cut the steering wheel to remove the bar then re-tape it together. I researched this already for my other car.

There is another type of device that attaches to your clutch or brake pedal so that it prevents it from being depressed. If you can't push the clutch pedal down you can't start the car or in an automatic if you can't push on the brake it won't unlock the gear shift. The other thing I like about that system is that it is very difficult to defeat due to the location once installed (in the footwell).

Hope this helps!

Re: SiR theft prevention.

to clarify, the 99-2000 SIR coupe is the one thats stolen more. the newer ones arent really that popular. and your article says 1995 civic, so that has nothing to do with you anyway. what civic do you actually have?

Re: SiR theft prevention.

I drive a 2000 SiR,

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...1217/20081217/

I've been searching all over the place for a badass alarm system, something really loud, that disables my car when tampered with. And maybe throw in a lock bar too.

Re: SiR theft prevention.

ah okay yeah that is prolly the most stolen civic. and once its stolen, chances are you wont get it back. they usually dismantle and use them for parts. youre really gonna have to go to great lengths to protect it. and im talking about expensive PAGER alarm system with a unique siren sound (maybe 2 sirens so its louder), some sort of custom fuel kill switch you can flip to disable the fuel pump, go buy a gun for yourself so you can flash it when youre running to your car after the alarm gets triggered, also if your car has power locks, unplug the lock switch or switches on the door panels, it will make it much harder to get in using the old coat hanger trick (but be very careful not to lock yourself out of the car! or the locksmith is gonna be there forever). unbolt your hood release lever and stuff it under the dash panels so they get confused and it buys you more time. if youre parking in a really bad area, unplug some spark plug wires or fuel injectors. find some way to tie down the hood from the inside maybe with a chain or something. and finally, make your car look like a regular SI. change the rims, take off the lip spoilers pieces, change to different rims (or even steelies and hubcaps), remove all badges, etc. this may not work as well if you have the blue one tho, cause that color only came on the SiR. after all that if someone tries to steal the car and fails, they will come back for sure with a tow truck to finish the job. idk what you can do about that tho. set your parking brake all the time at least but even then they have gojacks that you just jack up the car onto and roll it away. so yeah you can try, but keep in mind your life will not be easy if you wanna keep this car.

Re: SiR theft prevention.

I also have an SiR or Si which is what it is called in the U.S. What you can do like the above post says is get a two way pager alarm it will tell you when someone is messing with your car and the pager that it comes with will alert you right away. Also the steering wheel lock that you are talking about is not really that useful against good theives. Instead you should get a clutch lock/Auto lock and put some kill switches in your car which is also mention in the previous post. Unplugging plugs when you go to bed is also a good idea and making it look exactly like a regular Si/Ex where ever you are from does help too. It will make it look less noticable. All these things will help in slowing down theives and even discourage them from taking our car.
But in all honesty if they decided to tow your car then its gonna be gone, but i doubt theyll do that much just for an SiR. Towing cars is more likely for much rarer cars than this and Yes you do have to go through that much to keep this car safe. You have no idea how paranoid I am about my car. I wake up at least once every night to see if it is still there and luckily it is.
Im not sure if it is in your area but you can also look into Lojack or Ravelco.

Re: SiR theft prevention.

can also add a camera pointed at the car so at least you see whats going on if someone is staking out the car or trying to steal it.

Ya, it sucks. I priced insurance for a S2000 and it was cheaper than my Civic.

Pager alarm if you're close enough.

Re: SiR theft prevention.

well if they went thru all the trouble of getting a tow truck, that means they really want it and prolly several guys at least and packing heat. so unless you feel like dying, maybe ignore the pager lol.
