hi i have 4,589 miles on my car changed it at 1000 miles, anyways, i'm wonder how often i need to change the oil, and how many miles does one need to have to buy an oil filter, since the oil filters at my jiffy lube are mobil brand, I'll have to spend more going to parts america or something

i do an oil and filter change every 3,000 miles....honda reccomends other but i think 3,000 miles is the safest bet...change the oil and the filter at the same time dont just do the oil and not the filter

Pedrito is so right....better to be safer than sorry...a clean engine is a happy engine..I change mine every 3,000, not tyring to go over that mark and I use a brand new Bosch filter as well...who would have ever thought, German engineering used on a Japanese car!

3-4k w/ filter and you should be fine for many many miles. If you seriously drive all highway no stop and go then 4-5 k.

Yeah my dealer told me directly 7,500 for the first change then I am going every 5K now so they do both the oil and filter. I would never just change the oil bad idea do them both its double the pleasure, double the fun

Just did mine last night...ended up spilling oil all over the crankcase when I was filling it back up...it was a nightmare! The drain bolt was on too tight and I had a hard time getting the filter off...but it was all worth it cuz my car purrs now...

Just remember to replace the "crush" washer on the drain plug or you might start getting oil stains on your garage floor.

I know all about that I think my honda dealer goofed on that when they changed my oil because I still have some small spots on the tarp where it has been leaking a little.

I try to change every 4000 miles - oil and filter both always. I use the Honda filter - local dealer sells them for $4.50.

Everyone be thankful that our engines are transverse (front-wheel drive). So our oil filter is easily accessible right next to the drain plug when you crawl under the car. I just finished changing the oil on two longitudinal rear-wheel drive cars ('92 Mazda pickup truck and '92 Volvo 740 sedan) - it was a royal pain in the butt to reach around the side of the engine (while lying on my back) to replace the oil filters!!

Ya, I really wouldn't go with the 5k miles they tell you between changes as that is for normal driving conditions. If you live in Los Angeles (like I do) the conditions aren't considered anywhere near normal. Normal driving conditions that manufacturers refer to is basically all highway driving. Rough driving conditions would include driving in hot weather, short drives, stop and go driving....all of which is common with the traffic of the larger cities. So, in short, change your oil and filter every 3k. Oh, and if you don't change your filter, the whole oil change was worthless becuase your just going to contaminate the new oil with the old oil from the filter (those filters hold a good amount of oil).

Well I wouldn't say it is completely useless to change the oil w/o changing the filter. Even if you do change the filter, there is always going to be about 5-10% of the old oil left in the car.

well I change my oil and my oil filter every 4000 Iuse the AMS high flow super duty filter with AMS 7500xl synthetic oil. conventional filters last about 2000 miles and at that time there almost completly broken down .. did some cut apart tests on filters and found the Mobile one and the AMS filters are probably the best out there. Oil changes are inexpensive so I would highly recommend staying on top of oil changes espically if you keep it in the red alot

I change mine every 2k. I live in the county and a lot of hwy driving. Oil is to cheap to streach it.

Also how often are we supposed to change our fuel filter?

honda says to change every 5,000 miles, i recommend every 3,000 miles. and as for oil and filter, get any filter, but dont go cheap on the oil. aftreall, the filter is filtering the oil, so the quality of the oil matters most. and since the civics use 3.7 qts or so, thats only 4 bottles, so go for the FULLY syntethic oils. the will cost you around 4 bucks a quart, but its worth it.
