Engine running too rough. Please Help!!!

I dunno what's wrong with my car but when i drive off in the morning the engine shakes as hell and it only does that in 1st gear. Even when it warms up it continues to do this. I have to drive for several miles for it to stop. Before, when i was driving off from a stop, i used to rev my engine to only 1500 rpm and release the clutch slowly for the car to move smoothly. Now i have to rev it to 2500-3000 rpm before releasing the clutch or else my engine shakes heavily. My ride was not like that before and the temperature has not changed. What could be wrong? engine, clutch, gearbox? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

I dunno, but shifting at 1500 seems kinda low... that's what your problem is. I don't think anything is actually wrong with your car.

And I'm not surprised that your engine is shaking at that RPM, cuz your engine is working way too hard to try and accelerate your car with an overly high gear at very low rpm's... that's why it's shaking. If you read your manual, the recommended shift points correspond to approximately 3000 rpm. Don't be afraid to rev it higher.

Does this happen all the time or only when engine is cold? If it shakes all the time you might as well check your engine mounts. One of them might be busted.

It happens in the morning when the car hasn't been driven overnight. It only happens on take offs in first gear. I could say its due to cold engine, but even when the engine reaches its normal temperature it continues to do it. I have to drive for several more miles for it to stop. One more thing i noticed this morning is that it only shakes when i'm releasing the clutch pedal but when the clutch is fully engaged the shaking stops completely. Don't you think it has something to do with the transmission?

I have this same problem, started a few days ago. The only difference is I'm in reverse (out of my driveway).

As you say though, as soon as the clutch fully engages the problem goes away. I'm gonna warm up the car a bit longer before work tomorrow, see if it goes away.

been happening to me too; for almost a year now. Honda can't find anything wrong. I was thinking about raising the idle speed to correct it. My A/F gauge registers nothing when it happens.

You could have hot spots on your flywheel. If it's only happening in 1st and before the car is up to operation temp, I would think that it would have to be the clutch. I had an accord that would do this also. It started at about 80k and continued to about 150k when I sold it. I just think it was a problem with the clutch.
