We also have a 2000 Civic LX and it warms up to temperature within about a mile of driving, usually. The way I understand this ( I'm a novice - I change my own plugs ) is that the thermostat is supposed to be closed until the engine reaches temperature, then open to regulate it.
But on this car, I went about 4 miles yesterday ( 38 degrees outside ) before it reached temperature.
Is the thermostat bad?
If so, would it be easy to change myself? ( seems like little is, on these cars )

Easy to replace. Use OEM, aftermarket seem to cause issues in this particular part.

Not bad.
The 2000 sounds too fast to heat up
Back when I was in Canada, it would not fully heat until an hour on the highway at 75mph.

In Canada it's common -20F... worst was -38c. Naturally the engine will take a while to warm up... so it will need rich mixture
Keep an eye on the temps on the 2000 instead.
Or your temp gauge m might not be precise.
Could simply be that there's no problem either.

We have another problem with the 2000 right now. When I would turn a corner, it would pull in that direction for maybe 100 feet after. Then I pulled out of a parking space downtown, the other day and PLOMP. Lucky it didn't happen at 55 on the highway.

Och, sorry to hear that. Well, they are all old cars, they will break here and there.

Well I'm back to the thread here. Is the correct OEM Genuine part number for the 2002 EX Sedan with Vtec:
19301-PAA-306 ?
19301-PAA-306 ?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

It wasn't in a place that I, with my basic skills, felt right about trying. So I had a few things I was saving up for my mechanic and let him do it.
It worked out. It WAS taking 4-5 miles to get up to temperature before, and this morning, in 45 degrees, I drove 1-1/2 miles over to Home Depot for something and it was all warmed up by the time I got there. Yay!
