Hi Guys
My GF's 2005 Civic SE bit the dust about a month ago when her vehicle lost compression in one of the cylinders. It seems she was driving like this for a while until it bit the dust.
$1400 later, the engine was swapped. After swapping the engine there was a P0401 code present, the mechanic used the wrong intake manifold gasket as the engine was non-egr and therefore required a different gasket. Once swapped the code went away.
One issue remained that was present from get go. Under load the vehicle will make a very high pitched screeching sound. It is very much intermittent and a high chance of success when going up an incline (heavy load). Also since the engine swap I notice a slight RPM drop when stopped at a light and hesitation before it finally gets going.
The vehicle is showing p1457 code. This code was present before the engine swap and she says she never heard the noise before so not sure if it's related or not but then again she drove with check engine lights for months.
I'm at a huge loss here and fell terrible because she just shelled out $1400 on a vehicle that's worth maybe $3000 currently. But she loves the car and I don't blame her, it was great vehicle.
Any help will be appreciated.
History:
3 months prior to the engine swap her spark plugs and coil pack were toast. Another mechanic had to re-tread the sparkplag threads, it seems this caused the compression loss as shavings were found in the same cylinder.
Thanks!

Forgot to add, it sounds like it's coming from under the drivers seat....hard to tell while in the drivers seat though and car moving.

Has the guy that did the $1400 engine swap drove it? However, around here they charge that much to take it for a drive. The shavings if that is what it really was would have probably blown out if you could have put up with it for a while. They were trapped under a valve.
Is the noise in the last few seconds of the video? There is a lot of distraction there. Was all that noise your car? Some of the tac bounces don't match car speed and appear transmission problems.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

10-14 seconds sounded like you got passed by a crotch rocket or something loud in traffic.
33-35 seconds sounded like someone leaning on their horn

It's the sound that occurs at 32-34 second mark.
The one that sounds like a horn but it's more like a high pitched clicking sound.
Seeing that there is an EVAP code could it be related to that? Would a faulty canister or valve created noise?
I'm hoping it's not transmission because despite the noise there isn't a drop in power. When there is hesitation at idle it sounds like the hiccup is from the engine, ie: rpm stutters as opposed to the rpm going up and vehicle stuttering.

Will it make the noise if you just rev up the engine?
Mash the gas pedal to the floor and let it rev to cutout?
Power brake it?
If it will, then get your head in the engine compartment and under the car so you can find out the area it comes from while someone else gets it to make the noise.
Reed screech......exhaust manifold or first pipe not tight enough, steel gasket vibrating like a reed as the leak occurs?
Clogged exhaust causing the first spring joint to open up under high pressure?

What do you mean by power brake? If I could reproduce it and pinpoint the source of the sound that would be ideal but no dice yet.

Start engine, drive until the sound is present while driving (If it will make the noise with the engine cold, then go for it right away. If the engine has to be hot, then drive until it is all warmed up.)
Put the shifter in drive
Stand on the brake pedal with your left foot so the car cannot go anywhere
Floor the gas pedal with your right foot
engine will probably rev to around 2000 RPM under this condition and it is at full load while the gas pedal is on the floor.
DO NOT do this longer than 5 seconds, and then allow at least one full minute of idling to let the torque converter and trans fluid cool down before trying it again.
You should know if this will reproduce the noise on the first try.
