P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

I have a 2005 Honda Civic LX Automatic.

CEL came on and I used my OBD II scanner and it reported P0135 - Powertrain - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1).

I searched around and this seems to be the right part from Majestic Honda -
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...936531-PLM-306, SENSOR A/F RATIO, priced at 176.58. Is this the right part?

There is another thread on here - https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...ensor-1-a.html

which seems to imply that the part is around $45. That thread is from 2006 though. Has the price increased 3x in around 9 years? Or am I looking at it differently?

Amazon has it for $191 -
Amazon.com: Genuine Honda 36531-PLM-306 Air and Fuel Ratio Sensor: Automotive Amazon.com: Genuine Honda 36531-PLM-306 Air and Fuel Ratio Sensor: Automotive

Should I use Bosch/NTK/Denso/Honda? Except Honda, the others are around $45 on ebay.

And this seems to the right way to fix it -

Please advise. Thanks for the help!

Re: P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Your 2005 car uses an A/F Ratio sensor, not an O2 sensor as sensor B1S1. Huge difference (even though they may appear to be nearly the same) and more expensive. Not interchangeable.
Should I use Bosch

Never
Bosch.

Use the brand the factory used, it will be either NTK or DENSO. Take a look on your original sensor, the name is stamped on it somewhere. You may need to wire brush it to read the name.

Honda part # 36531-PLM-306, would be correct.

Find who made your sensor, then go to that manufacturers website and look up their part numbers for your car. Then do your searching.

Here's some sensors from something entirely different, you can see the name clearly on one after using a wire wheel to clean off the rust:

Re: P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

I'm a little lost here. If the A/F Ratio sensor part # 36531-PLM-306 is correct and it's priced around $175 straight from Honda, why would Honda use an NTK or Denso?

Is the sensor not part of 36531-PLM-306? I've already ordered it from Amazon (can return it if I like) but I'm trying to understand if that's the only part I need or do I need to purchase the sensor separately?

Update:
I just took a picture of the sensor (attached) on my car it's actually Denso! Then what is 36531-PLM-306? Everything besides the sensor (the wire)? This is so confusing .

NTK and DENSO are both OE suppliers to Honda --- and many other manufacturers.

Honda does not build the sensors, just like Honda does not build fuel pumps, tires, batteries, radios, and many other things they install on their cars.

Same as every other car maker on the planet.

Is the sensor not part of 36531-PLM-306?
I posted the Honda part number directly from the dealer parts catalog.

but I'm trying to understand if that's the only part I need or do I need to purchase the sensor separately?
You should get exactly what you ordered. That part number will (hopefully) net you the correct sensor in a Honda package..

I see Price: $191.12 in your Amazon link. I figured with some research you could get a better price for the same thing.
Majestic $176

A little searching seems to indicate DENSO produced that particular sensor, so I took it a few steps further.

I went to the DENSO website and entered your car information, and obtained the DENSO sensor part number 234-9005.

I googled for DENSO 234-9005, I found many available at local well known parts stores in the $160 price range,

and also found at least one for less than $100 from unknown Amazon suppliers.
Can't tell you about the quality, accuracy, warranty, or service though.

Re: P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Thanks for clearing it up, ezone! It all makes sense.
I just stumbled on to this link -

http://virantha.com/2013/01/13/repla...da-civic-2005/

and it explained what you just said. It led me to this page on Amazon which has Denso 234-9005 -

Amazon.com: Denso 234-9005 Oxygen Sensor: Automotive Amazon.com: Denso 234-9005 Oxygen Sensor: Automotive

Majestic had 36531-PLM-306 for 174 but with shipping and handling charge, it is running into 195. I have Amazon Prime so I figured I'd get it faster. I'm going to send the 36531-PLM-306 back to Amazon and order Denso 234-9005 instead. It is around $98, almost half of $191 for Honda branded sensor.

That should do it, right?

That looks about like what I saw when I searched.

That should do it, right?
Hopefully......
