my 2k2 civic is excellent, only problems were minor like the defroster- a/c thing . but like everyone has been saying its just the luck of the draw, each car that comes off the line is different. maybe the guy who put your car together was made to work a double shift and lost his concentration or something. in my opinion they experiment too much, they need to leave well enough alone. with all this ULEV, new suspension, etc. they are trying to re-invent the wheel, not to mention its a "tuners" nightmare. i could go on but you only get $0.02 for the first minute, lol.

Honda,s are put togeather on a assembly line by robots and assembly line workers who do most of the quality control work. Most of the problems you read about here are the same thing over and over again cause by a engineering error or by a faulty part .and in many cases caused people second guessing the engineers and making modifactions to the car after they buy it. I know ! I work on a auto parts assembly line. btw. I have screwed up my own cars many times over the years by making modifications to them......ie wheels, audio equipment ,suspention parts, engine mods. ect.
I really think if you're gonna modify your car you have no business complaining at all. That's just my opinion. I only think that company-endorsed mods look good anyway. There's a lot of ugly mods out there
Let me be clear...HONDA is definetly an overrated car company, more specifically, the CIVIC is grossly overrated. I am not saying it's bad by any means but resale value is what sells this car. I can think of a lot of cars that ride just as good or better and don't get half of the credit. There have been just too many COMMON problems with this generation CIVIC that shouldn't be happening to cars of this reputation. Tranny problems, and leaky front struts are major problems with the build quality of the car and I can't accept that from HONDA. Those are the kind of problems you'd expect to have with a FORD FOCUS or HYUNDAI ELANTRA. Not from a HONDA. I am demanding when it comes to my cars. I take great care of them and never put stupid mods on them. I just want a great A to B car more than anything...I don't want to be back at the dealer for every little adjustment they need to make i.e new struts, new seat bushings, air bag sensors, Cd door assembly's, etc... This car has failed to deliver that simple need.
Hey nycivic: Sorry about your experience with the car. I had a bad Acura EL as well and the car was giving me problem all day and I know how it feels. In general the quality of this re-design is subpar even by economy car standard. For all you flamers out there:
1. My car is completely stock...except I replaced the Firestones with better rubber.
2. The car DOESN'T get me to point A to B SAFELY!! I had more than a few close calls because the engine stalls out all the time.
3. Warrenty is useless on problems like this. If it starts up and no CEL then Honda/Acura simply say no problem found...eventhough it stalled right in front of the service writer and master tech when I took them out for a ride.
4. Many other problem they weren't able to fix. Had my shocks replaced twice and they're still leaking. Also the car can't keep a good alignment. I did a front wheel alignment at a shop that I know then drove it around for half an hour. Put the car back on the machine and it's out of spec again. Result? Poor tracking on the highway. The shop owner said I have a bad steering rack but my Acura dealer say if the wheel turns and the rack aren't leaking they can't do anything.
So...here's my resolution:
If your car is that bad then either file Lemon against Honda or get something else. I choose the latter as I don't have the time. The handling of this thing put my EL to shame!
Goto nhtsa.org and look up the 7th gen Civic's consumer complaint records. It racked up one of the longest list of problems/complaints in one year. Compare the list with other makes or even older model Civics then come back to tell me whether it's the best Civic ever.
Yes maybe you're lucky...so are some other members here that got a good sample. Or maybe you guys have a lower standard for quality...was it you or Ronin that also has the stalling problem? Maybe you think the car stalling out is ok but not me.
And I bet if we get to see the problem/100 figure on the new Civic it's going to be way up there.
ok...maybe not stall out completely but you DO have an idle problem do you?
And the thing is have you ever try to compare the used car price of a 2000 and 2001 Civic similarly equipped? You can easily find a 2001 going for less than a 2000 if the mileage is close enough. 01 has a bad rep out there already and that's how the market sees it.
Not sure if this is a good comparison. I picked the 03 Corolla (first model year) vs. 02 Civic (second model year).

And keep this in mind...if you search for the record for a 96 Civic now of course it's going to show more problem than a 01...simply because it's a five year old car. But the 01 racks up the longest list I've ever seen for a one year old model.
Anyways...I've moved on and all I intented to do is to urge members with problematic cars to either file a lemon or do what I did. That all.
To be honest most people have no desire to trade a 7th gen civic for any mazda. I have a 2k1 civic and a 2k1 mazda.....and don,t think for a min. that you want have problems with the mazda........they have low resale value and are not nearly as good quality....when you buy a mazda you had better like it because your stuck . no one wants a used mazda.........
What you are saying is everyone else trade your civic because I traded mine! No most people are smarter than that.but not to fear we all make mistakes.Anyone that would trade a 7th gen civic for a corolla or mazda better check around on resale .The civic has the best resale of all the small competitive cars.A lot of people are flaming them here but remember these people are a small minority and most people are not like us on this forum they drive it and forget it (don,t worry about the small stuff). Hell all cars are subject to problems the civic is one of the best small cars out there.

Excuse me....where exactly in the entire thread (or entire forum) did I say that? My whole point is I've seen enough people on this forum alone suffering from their 2k1 and I'm sharing my experience with them. If you like yours so be it...but I think a few people in here could use my help.
Just one more thing...as I saw your other post on another thread and all you mention is resale value. Let me ask you how good is the resale value if I can't use the car safely while I'm having it? I would rather loose a grand or two at the end and have a safer car to drive. And let me tell you if I can spend more time working instead of visiting my dealer trying to get things fix my pay cheque can make up for whatever resale value I loose with my P5.
