When to change the timing belt for a 2005 Civic

Hello All,

I had my 2005 in today for a new inside grab bar paid for by Home Depot. It has 78000 miles. My service rep at the dealership ask me about getting the timing belt changed as it should have done at 60k. He stressed that I really, really needed to have it changed as quickly as possible. After getting home I checked my manual and it lists changing it at 110k. I really don't have the money and hard to agree to pay that much now at 78k if my manual says 110k. Can anyone please advise? Thanks.

Timing belts are changed based on time, age and condition; if you don't trust Honda go to an independent mechanic that you do trust and have him inspect the condition of your belts. If you neglect the belt and it snaps as a result of wear, you'll need a new engine.

Manual says 100k, and I suggest you follow the manual.
