Unhappy Help with 04 civic

Hey everybody, I recently picked up a 04 civic ex w/ automatic trans, bone stock, and roughly 55k miles. My problem is this car is showing the codes P1457, P0497, and it has trouble starting after filling up (or putting just a gallon or two in the car) I always tighten the cap atleast 3 clicks and have cleared it once but it still came back. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Please help or point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with 04 civic

Ok p1457 has something to do with your evap system, the code says there maybe a leakage so you need to get the service manual and figure out what to do to fix it. This is the reason why you have trouble starting your car when you get gas. The evap system is your fuel system basically. and the other code I am not sure bout that one but just reseting the codes isnt going to help any you have to fix it first.

EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected and Low purge, I believe. I will check it soon to make sure. Yea I know that clearing the code will not fix it but i was trying to make sure it wasn't that I didn't tighten my gas cap enough.

Re: Help with 04 civic

replace your gascap, otherwise you have a evap line that is leaking.

Did replacing your gas cap fix your codes? I only ask because I am having similar issues.

Re: Help with 04 civic

I had the same issue and gas cap did not fix it.

I started to fill up the car every time I needed gas (or it was cheap) and that seems to have helped a great deal but I still get the code from time to time.

I was bad about running the car on a 1/2 tank or less.
