Emission Control Light on - Engine Revs on its own

The past week or so I noticed my engine reving a little bit on its own when in idle...I figured maybe the the throttle cable was sticking because if I punched the gas a little it would settle down. But have not had time to play with it yet.

Then today it got a lot worse and the emissions control light came on. So now it seems more complicated than I had anticipated. I did read a few threads of fairly similar nature saying that resetting the ECU could work?(unplug the battery for a few minutes) I thought about getting an OBDII reader to see what kinds of codes are coming through, but any advice would be helpful. This is my first problem with the 2002 EX 5 sp.

Re: Emission Control Light on - Engine Revs on its own

If anybody can help...

Reset the ECM, light went away. Idling right now, and revs in repeating cycles...up to about 2000 RPM and back down to normal idle speed then back up again every 5-10 seconds. Sound like a throttle body/vacuum system issue?

check the engine code. its prolly a tps sensor problem on the throttle body.
