VTEC Controller Post 2

OK well I called a performance shop to have my Apexi VAFC II Vtec controller installed tomorrow they are going to charge $150 to install it(I know k pro woulda been better but Ive already had the vtec controller for about a year just sitting there). Anyways the guy told me that for $255 they can put it on the dyno for an hour and a half to tune it for a total of $405. Is it really worth putting on dyno for them to tune it, or can I just have it installed ? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

Re: VTEC Controller Post 2

yeah without tuning, you might as well not even install it. the whole purpose is the allow adjustment of fuel trims to maximize engine performance. and that can only be done on the dyno. if the car does not have any major engine mods, i doubt you will get more than a few extra hp.

The car had it already on when i was first looking at it at the dealership. When i took the car for a test drive it was on and the car see to perform well with it on and it was probably one of the main reasons why I bought the car. And the the dealership took it off because it would not pass smog and the check engine light was on, could it have already been tuned for the car or ?

There's no way to know, but that's a lot of money for little performance.
