HELP! Squeaking noise coming from driver side wheel area.

I was coming home from the store earlier today and my car began to make a high pitched squeaking noise. it sounded as if it was coming from the front drivers side wheel area.(The noise was only there when the car was moving..) After i got home, i noticed that the front drivers side wheel was very hot, a lot hotter than the others. and there was an odor coming from that side.(almost like a metal on metal smell?) If anyone could give me any possible solutions to this problem or at least diagnose it i'd really appreciate it...

Thanks

Dust sheild? Rotor? Bad bearing maybe? It could be almost anything take it off and take a look in there it should be really apparent on what it is.

I made sure the dust shield wasnt rubbing. I even bent it away even more and the noise is still there... how can i tell if the rotor or bearing is bad?

if your rotor is bad then when u brake u might feel pulsation in the pedal You might also hear noise. a bearing is bad if you jack the car up, give the wheel a spin and still hear the noise- plus ur wheel might be wobbly too. maybe new brake pads?

Re: HELP! Squeaking noise coming from driver side wheel area.

i think i found the problem...brake pads. the pad is not even visible in the caliper on the drivers side...im guessing the pad is shot. i am going to replace them tomorrow and see if that solves the problem. Any recommendations on break pads?

Thanks for the replies

OEM is good. Make sure your rotors are smooth before replacing the pads or it will sqeak down the line and probably be crappy braking.
