Steering Wheel Shaking

I've brought my car to Honda and a Meineke and neither place can figure it out. My steering wheel shakes, but only after the car heats up. It isn't any of my motor mounts because they've all been checked. It only does it when I'm stopped at a light or something. I don't have any idea what it is so if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it. To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

Re: Steering Wheel Shaking

Is it related to a rough idle??? Clean your throttle body sensors and such and such. That might help. Does the car feel like it wants to stall?

Re: Steering Wheel Shaking

No, not at all. The car is quiet except the steering wheel shakes/ vibrates which in turn my exhaust will move somewhat causing some sounds, but the annoying part is just the steering wheel shaking. I'm stumped. If it helps I have an aem short ram intake, but I don't see that affecting my throttle body.

Re: Steering Wheel Shaking

The only thing I can think of is what you have already covered which is motor mounts. or Idle which is probably not the problem. Hmmm. Have your transmission checked? Is it auto or manual?

Re: Steering Wheel Shaking

I have a manual...and it's only when I'm stopped at a light...Doesn't seem to be shaking at all while driving...I appreciate all the help...I'm just as stumped....I might have the motor mounts checked out again...You never know...

Re: Steering Wheel Shaking

Does it happen all the time when stopped, or just when the fan kicks on?

Re: Steering Wheel Shaking

both....after booting up the car a couple minutes later it will start the shaking...from 3-5 minutes after ignition all the way up to turning off the car....it happens whenever I'm stopped...

Re: Steering Wheel Shaking

It's not likely for a manual transmission to cause this, I'd check the mounts yourself. Just start the car and rev it from the throttle body. Check to see if you can hear anything and see how much movement the engine has. The 7th gen civic has a mount that has a high wear rate that you might want to look into as well. It's posted all over the forum here.

Re: Steering Wheel Shaking

im sure its a low idle issue causing the engine to shake and you feel it in the steering wheel. clean the intake system and throttle body sensors.
