"Growl" from engine at 3-4k rpm.

Hey folks,

Recently (as in, within the last month), I've been noticing a different "note" from my engine as the rpms drop between gear shifts (or, to a lessor degree, when I just rev it). Sounds kinda like a growl or a gargle (get that little flap thing at the back of your throat moving - that's pretty much what it sounds like .. LOL).

As this is new, I'm concerned as to what it might be.

Thanks!

Re: "Growl" from engine at 3-4k rpm.

I had something similar not too long ago, ended up being the heat shield on my Cat Converter. Have someone rev the engine while you get under the car, see if it comes from there, and look for signs of rust on it.

I just took it off, sound gone.

Re: "Growl" from engine at 3-4k rpm.

You know mine makes a similar noise. When I am around 4k I hear what sounds like a rattling metal noise, but anywhere below or above its gone. When I am on the interstate I like to run aroun 80mph but that puts my rpms right in that area and the engine gets really loud but if I do 90 and bring the rpms up some more its 10 times quieter. Weird.
