Crank Shaft Pulley Question

I am installing a new timing belt.

I have a 2002 EX. What are the notches on the crank shaft pulley? The cam shaft is in TDC for 4. Can I make the crank shaft TDC with 4?

thank you.

Re: Crank Shaft Pulley Question

White notch on crankshaft is TDC for #1 (piston closest to the crank).

Re: Crank Shaft Pulley Question

There are no colors on the pulley. I know which one is the TDC for 1 but is one of the notches for TDC for 4?

Re: Crank Shaft Pulley Question

No there are no notches for any of the other TDC points. But here, I was typing this on one of your other posts.

Dude. Stop. Did you pull the head? The reason you can't turn the cam is because the valves are hitting the pistons. You need to pull the head off again, put the cam to TDC, then put the crank to TDC. Pull the timing covers and crank pulley back off and straighten out the mess you just made of the timing belt.

How did you end up in this situation??

Re: Crank Shaft Pulley Question

We can stick to this post.

I wrote this in the other one.

I did not pull the head? I followed the Helms and then it came to a time to TDC the cam and crank. the crank is at TDC but the cam is at TDC for 4. The "UP" is down.

Do I need to pull the head to fix it?

I lined up the crank pulley with the TDC to the arrow (belt still on) and removed the bolt. the line and arrow still lined up. Removed bolt and cont with uninstall. Removed belt etc...

Installing the belt I lined up the timing belt pulley with the line on the pulley to the line on the block. (no timing belt on yet) (didnt really need to move it already lined up). but the cam is in TDC for 4 "UP" is down.

Re: Crank Shaft Pulley Question

$420.00 lesson learned

See if that helps you out..The link above. I haven't done mine yet but am going to put cylinder 1 at TDC- This is the cylinder closest to the timing belt. The pully should say up on it. I would pull the valve cover. I know the oil pump has a mark on it so line that up with the other line. As far as the crank shaft...darn..i don't have my manual on me right now...I'll have to get back to you..
