My 2003 CIvic sedan EX with 54K miles got this funny problem going on....
there's this whistling noise (like wind noise) which came from the tranny.....it's manual transmission.....NOW, this whistling noise will come when the tranny is in neutral or in gear (1-5) position....
The only time when the noise's gone is when I press the CLUTCH PEDAL down and hold it down......then the noise is gone....
anybody know this kind of problem? do you know the fix? is it actually a problem or just normal thing (for 2003 civic)? any suggestions?
thank you!

well, turns out that the dealer told me how the input shaft bearing is not covered under warranty...
the reason is simply because this part is considered just like brake pads......they said that they can open it up to diagnosed it and as the warranty (national, not Honda care) whether they want to replace it or not. if they don't want to pay for it, i've to pay up to $800 for everything!
do you guys think this problem needs to be addressed ASAP for my own safety? any opinions?
i just asked a local performace shop in my area about the tranny job....they're one respectable store around here (all my local forum members trust this store)...
so...i hope they're OK with D17 tranny....they specialize in turbo, performance mods, engine swap, custom engine swap, etc...lol
so, you replaced yours, right? what are the effects of the bad input shaft bearing before you replaced em? right now, mine only making that whistling noise.......tranny still shifting nicely, all 1-5
right now, mine is not very loud.....not yet, perhaps...
help with your opinion plz:
i just got a quote from my local shop.....it's not that cheap, damn.
alongside with bearing replacement, do you guys think it'll be good if i replace my clutch with performance clutch? i'm looking to replace it with exedy stage1 organic clutch... along with flywheel resurface, i think...
i'm not looking to upgrade my engine in any way though.......do you guys think it's a good upgrade while they replace my bearings?

i hope i can get better feeling after the clutch upgrade.....
OH BTW, i'm also looking to replace BOTH bearings discussed on that thread! the throwout bearing and input shaft bearing all together! what a b*tch..............lol
thanxx for your help, man......thanx for the pepsi as well....lol
back about the stupid bearing now...i think i can listen to the whistling noise during normal cruising at low speed (25mpg).....it's whistling like that.....come and go...
How far are you from the Palisades Mall in Upstate NY from where you live....I need to change my bearings too and was thinking about changing clutch as well...Please let me know..

Dang, that's way too far for me....Oh well I guess I will have to find another shop...
I hear that whistling noise too and thinking da same thing.. ...I want to replace my clutch too....Its working fine...but since I am paying for the labor I might as well put a new clutch in there too...
So how much was the quote anyway????
