Exclamation 03 Civic:MT tranny whistling? | Page2: upgrade clutch during bearing replacement?

Hi guys!

can you help me on this matter?

My 2003 CIvic sedan EX with 54K miles got this funny problem going on....

there's this whistling noise (like wind noise) which came from the tranny.....it's manual transmission.....NOW, this whistling noise will come when the tranny is in neutral or in gear (1-5) position....

The only time when the noise's gone is when I press the CLUTCH PEDAL down and hold it down......then the noise is gone....

anybody know this kind of problem? do you know the fix? is it actually a problem or just normal thing (for 2003 civic)? any suggestions?

thank you!

bumped!

well, turns out that the dealer told me how the input shaft bearing is not covered under warranty...

the reason is simply because this part is considered just like brake pads......they said that they can open it up to diagnosed it and as the warranty (national, not Honda care) whether they want to replace it or not. if they don't want to pay for it, i've to pay up to $800 for everything!

do you guys think this problem needs to be addressed ASAP for my own safety? any opinions?

Yep this isn’t a safety issue though.

Without this bearing your gears will grind every single time you shift!

hear is a pic of my bearing.

I have 60,000 miles on my car.

This will go in next week!

hmm...thanx for the pics!

i just asked a local performace shop in my area about the tranny job....they're one respectable store around here (all my local forum members trust this store)...

so...i hope they're OK with D17 tranny....they specialize in turbo, performance mods, engine swap, custom engine swap, etc...lol

Yep it starts off not going into gear...

Then it grinds...

When the "tec" drove my car once, he was all "what up with your trany?"

I was all what do you mean...(then I found out what the problem was)

help with your opinion plz:

i just got a quote from my local shop.....it's not that cheap, damn.

alongside with bearing replacement, do you guys think it'll be good if i replace my clutch with performance clutch? i'm looking to replace it with exedy stage1 organic clutch... along with flywheel resurface, i think...

i'm not looking to upgrade my engine in any way though.......do you guys think it's a good upgrade while they replace my bearings?

really, i don't think i'll do anything engine wise.....totally stock.....

what kind of gain will i get after clutch upgrade then (with stock engine and stock flywheel)? any comments?

My car is "internally" stock as well! (But I am getting a Stage 2 cam in JUNE!)

The car puts down 115 WHP with 113WTQ! I/H/E VAFC2 (tuned) & 4 puck clutch/ 8lbs flywheel!

Stock I believe is around 100 or 110 WHP! So you can compare & contrast...

I love the flywheel & Vafc!!!

The car "wraps" out quicker and VTEC HITS HARD now!!!

The car is FUN to drive to say the least...
