Same thing happened to me last Thursday on my 05 civic. Turns out the linkage cable or whatever is it was messed up. I heard of this before and just went to honda. They replaced the cable in like 30 minutes under warranty. Not a common problem but it happens a lot.
Move the trunk carpet and twist the cable and pull it out so you can get gas.
Then check the whole cable and see if it just came off it's guides at the lever.
i just called and the dealership is charging me $231!!! for parts and install!!!! Bullshit!!!!!!
Dam, that sucks. The honda tech showed me how to take out the linkage but then the problem is that your gas door won't close and you look like a dumbass driving around with the gas door opened.
See if you can buy the cable and get it installed elsewhere cuz honda charges 1.5 hours.
thanks everyone, i fixed it. IT was funny when i had to fill up and open my trunk to open my gas lid....lol. But i fixed it, just bent the gas lid flange a little bit and its fine. Thanks everyone.

That always makes me laugh, my 04 had this problem when it was 2 years old, so I suppose its about time again.
for DsevenEm2:
Pop the trunk and go to the side with you gas door on it. Start at the top and pull off the carpet on the side. You should find a black cylinder with a cord coming out pointing right at the gas door. Rotate it 90 degrees and it should pull out, Your gas door is open, now put the cylinder back in and rotate back. Repeat for the next month or more until you get time get it fixed or fix it yourself.
