i have a 02 civic ex my first tranny messed up at 37,894 miles. Every time i shift to second gear it pops out and grinds like crazy even if i try to hold the shifter down. I replaced the transmission with a used one that only had 11,000 miles and i also put a new factory clutch in and i just put about 13,000 miles on that tranny and now it's making knocking noises and chattering noises. And now it's starting to pop out of second gear again. These transmission sucks i can't even compare to the older civic transmission. What materials are honda using to build these transmissions with, plastic gears?

my tranny doesnt slip but it kicks every once in awhile around 20mph, its not really often anymore like before i change my tranny fluid. im gonna start changing my atf every 10k miles now. but please send this to honda, they should bust out with a recall like they did with all the tranny recalls around 2002. remember all those accords, odysseys, tls, and preludes built between 98-02 that had tranny recalls. too bad our cars were designed during the era of bad trannies from honda.

Im at 80k and still on the original tranny........had some issues with it but I have always been able to work em out......Clutch pressure plate and throwout bearing I replaced a little while back and have had all the popping out of gears issues that you guys had but I have been able to get rid of them with the cunning use of massive amounts of extremly heavy weight gear oil. I use 85w 140 in that bitch and have had no real grinding or gear issues since I switched to that.......have to keep the level perfect though or it becomes difficult to put her all the way it gear...doesnt grind but you have to play with it a little tiny bit to get it in........btw have replaced engine, mounts, full suspension, most electrical components, headlights, that stupid little plug for the headlights that was recalled, and he paint which had a shitty luster to it....and all on my dime....so my suggestion it, if your out of warranty and your car begins to have problems......Dont bitch at Honda......just STFU and fix em.............no no no quit ya bitchin and fork out the dough. Just my .02

Ive had my 01 civic about a 2 yrs. and at 89000 my transmission went out. It started slipping one morning on the way to school and that afternoon I couldnt leave. We had it towed to Nalley honda in Union City, Georgia. At first they said they would pay for half, but I decided to do some research on this problem and found this thread, printed it out, highlighted some stuff and printed out some Consumer reports gave it to my mom and she went up there. They are now paying 100% for everything, so I wouldnt give up with out a fight, they know about the problem they just dont want to recall.

I just have a quick question. Since my car is highly modified exterrior and my gauges converted with different miles, do you guys think Honda would've paid for my auto tranny repair? I know its too late now cuz its repaired......

well shroomster said they wouldn't pay it all but he negotiated and they ended up paying for part of it. thats what i plan to do also. mine is slipping at 45k on my 02 auto, but i put some lubecontrol in the tranny fluid and the slipping has gotten much better. it only slips 100-200rpms when cold and doesn't slip at all when warm! i'm surprised it helped so much. Its still noticable but a whole lot better than before.
