I have a wierd noise that comes from my 01 civic. It seems to occur only when the AC is turned on (or the fan too.) It sounds like a slide whistle.
It seems to come from somewhere inside the passenger side dashboard. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Also, anyone know where to find the best price for a new pollen\dust filter. The dealer out here charges about 21 bucks for one filter. That's not too bad, but I'm just wonderin'

Yes. And it doesn't always happen. It will be fine and then just start making the slide whistle noise. When I tuurn the fan control to off, it stops. I am assuming it is the AC since it is like 100 degrees out here and I am not runnign just the fan or the heater. Maybe I need to park and open the windows and just run the fan...
I have that same noise when my AC is on...I think it has something to do with the compressor. Im going to take it to my mechanic and let him look at it
yea..... i have the same problem also..... well not lately but about a month ago and before that.... all i did was turn the AC all the way up until the noise go away then i turn it back down.
I have the same problem, mine was after I replaced the condenser on my 01 Civic and initially the noise was not everytime but now is all the time, if I turn off the AC it goes away but I can tell it is either a fan somewhere or the compressor.
well.... mines juss turned back on the other day and it was getting annoying, so i just left the AC on and redlined it on 1st and 2nd gear and then i heard a loud squeak noise under the hood and then it went back to normal. so then the AC stop making that noise. i wouldnt suggest anyone to do what i did because i wouldnt want anyone compressor to mess up or anything... just wanted to share what i did...
when mine did it i looked around and found it. there's a sensor in the air ducts under the driver side, down by the fuse/relat box it just twists in and mine got untwisted, if i had a digi cam i'd take a pic, u have to be down on the driver side floow to see it, if ur face is about 8 inches away from the gas pedal and u look to your upper right you'll see it if my memory serves me, the end is white
Matt.

Sportin the DX with the high performance piston return springs, are you?
i've been getting kind of a high-pitched whistling noise when my A/C is on too, especially when the condenser clicks on and off - since I bought the car actually. I've been getting used to it though...

I heard the same whistle noise with A/C on when the blower fan was on both upper and lower vents and on recirculation mode. It comes and goes away. I haven't heard it for a while.
I find the A/C colder in recirculation mode than fresh air mode. Does your A/C seem to be cold for a while then warm then cold again. It's like the A/C is turning off and on.
I found the white sensor under the dash /centre console. Is this thing making the whistling noise? If so how do you fix it?
I just took my car in for the timing belt replacent and I asked the mechanic about the noise. He said it's no problem. It is actually a value that releases the pressure that builds up when your condensor converts the Freon from a gas to a liquid or when the liquid turns into a gas later in the system. Anyway, he said sometimes the valve makes noise and sometimes it doesn't. No big deal.
i wass getting a belt noise whenever i drove so i took it in to honda. also had a knocking noise when i had the A/C on. they said its the A/C compressor and the a/c clutch is loose from wear making that knocking noise. they're fixing it wednesday under the honda care plan
they also noticed something wrong with my 02 sensor. they guy called and hes like "um i think theres a problem with your 02 sensor - you don't have one" hahaha i was like yeah i replaced my downpipe and he's all "ooooooh that makes sense now" haha he didn't know what the hell he was talking about, just was reading what the tech wrote on the workorder.
...and the results of getting off your lazy a$$?.... haha..
i still get the knocking noise...well its more like a rattle. i found out it does continue while the car is moving..you just cant hear it cuz of the engine noise. but..if im at a stop and it comes on...i push the clutch pedal in and it goes away
