HELP! engine malfunction light on.

I tried searching but it was taking too long.
Ok, so 2 days ago, my engine malfunction light went on and so I thought since my car's due for an oil change, that may be it. I wasn't able to get the oil change yesterday so I said i'll do it first thing Monday. So I went to a pool party last night and drove on the way there with the engine light on. On my way home when I started the car the light was off. I checked again this morning and it was still off. I checked the manual and it said the light is for engine emission malfunction stuff and prolonged driving while its on is a no no. Any of you guys know whats going on?

not getting an oil change for a while won't usually trigger it. There is something bad going on, so best thing to do is get the code read and go from there. Most auto parts stores do it for free, then come here and look up what the code means.
