Shifting Problems - 5spd EX

Would like to know if anyone out there has been experiencing and/or can provide solution to the following problem:

Shifting from 1st to 2nd, almost feels like it needs an extra little effort to get through a grind.
Sometimes into 3rd, mostly 2nd.
When vehicle was new, shifting was much more fluid, to the point where I could shift with the tips of my fingers. Manuals usually break in a bit, and sometimes get a little more rugged, but if it werent for the fact that it seems to wanna pop out of gear (causing that thing we all hate doing to our clutches, dont even have to describe the sound ) I wouldnt worry as much.
Occasionally I won't notice it as much, but I want to make sure to attack the problem before it gets worse.
The scratching into 2nd is more of a sense than a audible event, and it began happening long before I installed my short shifter.
Just wanted to see if anyone even remotely knows what im talkin about, so I could get to the dealer and start shifting smoother again as soon as possible..
