P1457 Error Code?

Hey everyone, for the past couple of months I have had the check engine light on my dash come on and off constantly. The first time it came on, the error code was P1457, which usually means an evaporation leak usually caused by the gas cap not being tight enough. Well anyways, I haven't had enough time to get my car in for the past couple of months. Just to make sure that this was the same error, I took it back in to autozone and the error is still P1457. The thing is, I made sure the gas cap was tight, even bought a new one to see if the old one went bad. That didn't work though. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem. The code specifically means P1457 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control System Leakage (EVAP Canister System). Does anyone know what could be causing the light to come on? Actually today when I went to autozone, the guy erased the code from my ECU so the engine light would go off, which it did. Im assuming that if it doesn't come on anymore, then the problem is fixed. If it comes back on then ill just take it back to honda.

I know this is an old post but... Auto Zone's code reader is not too "advanced". The actual "Honda Code" is { P1457 - Unable To Pull Vacuum in Tank } This is caused by either a bad Evaporator Solinoid or most commonly I hole, rip tear break in the Vacuum hose. I had this same code come up and the problem I wound up having was a hole from wear in the Purge Hose (refer to Diag. part # 24) http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...L+PIPE+%281%29

Just thaught this might help some of you.

I had the code when I got my 03 Civic, Honda fixed it by replacing the fuel filter and gas cap.

Re: P1457 Error Code?

Yesterday due to a water main break I had to drive thru a large and deep puddle of water. My engine light came on the next day.
I checked the gas cap it was fine. The error message came out 1457.
I have only had this 2001 Honda Civic for 2 months.

Before I had this car I had a 1999 ford escort.
Last fall I had gone thru a deep puddle and had the check engine light come on the next day also. I replaced oxygen sensors twice, had a tune up and about everything you can think of. still the light would always come back on.
thats why I got rid of the car.

Now with my Civic I'm having similar problems.
These computers they have on our cars now days are some times hyper sensitive. Who knows. But try the least expensive options first.
dumping $700 bucks into a car and having the light come back on anyways
and the garage telling you there is nothing else they can do just isn't worth it. good luck.
