yea its weird, for remote starters, you have to put your key in this storage box that connects to the engine, because the remote starter can't start up the car without civic key

Some Info About Remote Starters:

1. They require your spare key for installation because they need to remove the chip in it and place it into a bypass unit so that the car can start without a key in the ignition. Once the chip is removed, the key is useless.

2. Remote starters voids warranties on all vehicles with an immobilizer system regardless of manufacturer.

3. Remote starters in general should never be placed into a manual transmission vehicle. Most installers will also refuse to do it. You'll usually have to have to know someone for them to do it for you. Installers don't want to be liable for runaway vehicles due to remote starters. Yes, there have been stories of cars taking off down the street on their own, and I have seen it happen before.

4. Installing remote starters require splicing wire around the ignition unit of the car, therefore if you have a problem with you ignition system and need to remove the remote starter kit, the dealer will still know the ignition system has been tampered with. Again, no warranty. Ignition systems cost big $$$.

5. If you do happen to be able to get one installed in a manual tranny, extreme care is required and never leave the car in gear after parking.

6. Honda charges around $100 for replacement keys. Plus if you use that key for the remote starter, you no longer have a "security" key to use. I.e. you've locked the trunk release latch because you've got valuables in there but you need to leave the car with a shop, parking attendent, etc..., they can still get into your trunk because the "black" keys allow access to all locks while the grey key cannot open any locks leading to the trunk.

I think he simply described it badly again. It's the chip that's removed from the key that's in the box.

LOL, range.

Remember:

1. All remote type equipment works great when they're new.
2. They ALWAYS begin to lose distance after a while.
3. Market to Canadian Tire...that's a pretty wide open area, not much interference from buildings and transmission towers. Don't expect the same reception coverage elsewhere especially downtown. Some people completely lose response in their alarm or remote entry remotes near the skydome, even when they're standing right beside the car.
4. Hmmm..Market to Canadian Tire...ARE YOU SURE it wasn't the Steeles side of Pacific Mall? That's a pretty big distance differential there.
