We ran a GB before, 120 for the tints + tip (cash obviously). It was a huge success and i can call the guy for you if you're in toronto and get you this deal as well.
As for percentages, the percentage you state is the percentage of light that will get into the car. so 80% is understandably VERY light. I know you understand what you mean although its technically incorrect so ya might as well say it right so ya dont get screwed on some tints by asking for 80% and then have the car come out with barely any changes!
legal limit in canada is 35% front, unlimited for rear windshield and rear windows.
I went with 35% front, 20% rear windows and 5% for the rear windshield. I wish id have went 20% in the front cuz its harder to see in the car.
Its really up to you what to do, but check someones ride out who has 35% and someones who has 20%... A lot of people do what i did to avoid tickets...Its bad enough we have civics and are automatically targets for cops so i figured id stay legal. your call man!
feel free to pm me with any questions or ya can post here.
EDIT: BTW, welcome to the club!

Anyway just wondering if anyone has any advice for me as im going to court to fight it. The ticket was issued by a municipal police force in Ontario.

there is not actual law on the amount of light tints have to let in....only that you can make eye contact with other drivers...so when you get pulled over its up to the police officer....
what a terrible law....but thats it....
35% is genally regarded by tint shops as the legal limit however....
5% is hard to see out of, i have it on my rear, but it does come in handy sometimes... hehe
anyways id go 20 all around
lemme know if ya want in on the GB and ill set it up for you and "Nameless" who pmed me earlier today. but only lemme know if you're 100% for sure.

I would say go 15% for the back and rears. For the sides 20% I think that is the max legal. Search to verify.
When you tint the back windows darker then the side and passenger windows it gives you the illusion that the tint is darker then it is. This is because more light is being blocked out.
