Car Wrecked - Writeoff questions

Hey, my Dad's 99 Accord got wrecked by my younger sister, I had some questions about what we can take off the car before it goes to the scrap yard.

I plan to go with my Dad tomorrow morning and want to swap the original Honda deck in and keep the CD player that I put in (nothing super fancy...), don't think that should be a problem.

He just bought 4 new snow tires in Nov, I wonder if it's possible to get them somehow if they are not damaged.... we don't have the original tires since they were bald and were going to replace them this spring anyway, so I was thinking to get 4 used tires for cheap (hopefully), does anyone know if this will fly or what?

Thanks

when my car got wrote off a few months ago i had just put on snows as well, i had a recipt and got my dad to help me bitch and they gave me my money in full for the tires. as for what you can take out im not to sure, i just took all my personal stuff cause i didnt have the time for all that. did you get the appraiser guy or whatever to look at your car yet? that can be a factor as well.

You are not supposed to take anything out of that car, that is BOLTED to the car.

This includes your new rubber/rims (or steelies). Give the receipt to the insurance company, and they may give you a portion or all of the price of the new rubber.

As for the deck, if you have the original receipt, see if the insurance company is willing to reimburse you.

Or if you're quick enough or the salvage yard guys don't care, go in and rip everything you want out, including the passenger seats

I had a friend remove ALL bulbs from his car, when it was totalled (well, the ones that worked anyway). If you're really anal, you may want to try to pump your gas out of the tank

Went down this morning... no problem swapping the decks. It was bought several years ago I don't think insurance would have given any extra for it even w/ the receipt.

I don't have the original tires that were bald anymore, was thinking to go look for some cheap used tires, or maybe use a couple that I had sitting around from my old car that were a slightly different size, but I'd have to jack the car up one end at a time, take the wheels & tires to another place to get tires swapped on the oem steel rims and bring them back (they said they don't do that there)... decided it wasn't worth my time, my dad will try and get more from the insurance company on account of the newness of the snows.

Thanks for the tips everyone

Any ideas on where I can find out a fair value for the car besides Autotrader? I thought there was some red/blue/black book or is that only in the US?
