B series and K series FRANKENSTEIN

When I hear the term frankenstein, I think of the LS/VTEC swap. Now that people have swap k20 heads onto k24 blocks thats considered the new frankenstein. Well IMO putting a k20 vtec head on a block that already had a vtec head isn't really considered "FRANKENSTEIN" Its just my opinion.

well i think of head/block combos.... that is not oem spec... like b20 blocks with b16 heads... or any type of b-series variants and a k24block with a k20 head is what i would consider to be a frankenstein... as for putting vtec on a nonvtec block would be an upgrade.... but ive never seen an ls block on a vtec head... altho i dont think it would be considered an ls anymore... but thats just me...

Yeah it would work, although a B16A2 head is just as good and is a lot cheaper.

you have to use the ecu of the cylinder head you are using. so thats the only way it would work you could run a B16A ecu on it if you wanted. but you cant use a GSR ecu for obvious reasons unless its been reprogramed.

Using a B16A2 ECU with a B16A2/B20B setup would work, but it's not ideal. Same with using a Type R or GSR ECU with a B20 setup. The B16A2 has fuel maps and timing set for an entirely different compression ratio, stroke, etc.

You can actually use any ECU with any head/block combo, as long as it hooks up correctly. I've used a D17A2 ECU with a K20A2 motor, and it drove fine. i-VTEC didn't engage, but other than that it worked.

The best scenario for a frankenstein setup is to get a good shop to program and tune the ECU themselves using Hondata or some similar tool.

If you look at Frakenstein's monster it was stitched together from many parts and thus became a new creature. I think thats exactly what a K24 block with a K20A2 head is. Thus the name "Frankenstein" engine applies.
