okay well everyone when I bought my integ, the guy told me it was not a US b20b it was JDMb20b from japan, umm....now that I think about it, is there a way to tell the difference? and whats the spec diff on the US b20b and JDM b20b? b20b was only made in 97-98 and b20z in 99-00 right? so I can check if its real b20 by lookin at engine code right? b.c. i read somewhere preludes made b20 also but was b20a not "b" correct? so as long as it read b20b or b20z and not "a" its real right?

the B20A was in 88-91 or so Preludes.... I don't think he would have put that in a GSR... it would be illegal for one thing, and I think the B18 in the GSR would have been a better engine, so it would have to be a b or z... get him to show you a pic of the engine code/serial number that is engraved somewhere on the engine, then go to the dealer or call Honda and see if they can run the serial number to determine what it was originally in.
Originally posted by david02civic i got a question thats kinda off the topic, why would changing an engine be illegal?
If he was swapping a B20A from a Prelude into an Integra GS-R which I'm assuming he's buying a DC2, then the engine would be older than the car.... thats what makes the swap illegal. Not everywhere, but most places that inspect for smog wouldn't let that fly.
