Ok me and the local buds, at the annual import meeting were sittin around talkin. And somebody said they had heard somethin about the RX-8 being canceled and not put into production because of the motor being a Rotary Motor that engine won't meet or pass present day emission tests??? I mean is this true, that means that the engine will have to be replaced with a piston motor???? Has anybody else heard this news, or am i just listening to somebody that talks a lot of BS???

i think that was the problem w/ the old rotary...the one in the rx-7, and it wouldnt meet current ulev emissions or something like that...but the new one is fixed. the funny thing is, the solution was just moving the spark plug to a different place or angling it differently or something like that. kinda funny.
i havent heard any news like that, and ive been on the rx-8 site pretty recently, i think theyd post something on there.
That is totally false, Mazda is taking orders for it AND they wouldn't have invested all this money into marketing and sending the car to magazines without being sure it was ready to go. The only problem with it at all was the problem with the last intake ports(?) not opening at around 7000 rpm on the promotional tester car, it's in the new SCC.
its not being canceled, the emmision problem was solved by moveing the exhaust/intake ports to the back of the rotor houseing. The first rx-8's are going to be here by april for the first people who pre-ordered them.

Nah, your friend needs an update. That car is ready to be put out on the streets. And if he "heard" that from someone else, then he needs to pass this smarter info on so stupid threads like this won't be posted.
