That is known as airplane fuel, and YES IT WILL F--- YOUR MOTOR UP. Our cars are not built to be run on anything higer than the minimum octane level from the factory. They built the ar that way for a reason, the main reason that wevery Honda Civic was made, because the minimum octane gas is always the cheapest to fill up with. So they try to save the consumer money by building the car around the cheapest gas. That is what the Honda Civic is all about. Cheap and economically friendly, also very friendly to my credit card.
Well I have used 92 octane since I bought my car and it runs excellent getter better mileage, also when I had the dealer 87 gas in it, it ran and acclerated like crap but once I got higher octane I didn't have any more problems. But with these recent gas prices may start running 89 to save a few bucks. But if you want the best for your civic I say go for it. But in the manual it says 87 or more will work in your civic. So buy what you want, but if you live in mountain areas and need a little extra power the more octane the better.
Octane doesn't add energy, it only slows the flame front to reduce detonation. Running on premium won't increase mileage. Besides, even if it did, it would have to increase it a lot to make up for the extra 20 cents you paid for it. If your car ran like crap on regular, you got crap gas.
If your car is stock 87 is ok, try modding it and add nitrous or even better put a turbo on and try that 87 " that the manual says" and you will be reading the manual about towing it cuz you detinated it to hell. S before you flame somebody for using higher octane make sure they dont have mods done. Secondly most tracks don't run airplane fuel which is 100 octane most sell either cam2, vp race gas, sunoco race gas or something of that nature, the only thing you have to be concerened with there is wheter or not the gas is leaded. They do sell unleaded race gas, but most tracks only have leaded.
ONE: higher octain will not harm your engine. It wont do any thing better though, maybe run a tad cleaner, but nothing even worth it. And TWO: airplane fuel is not Kerosene, it just has several addatives that make it burn with less oxygen and what not. And yes, airplane fuel will harm you engine because of the addatives.
Higher octane gasoline is only needed if you up your compression. The reason for this is that lower gasoline will spontainously ignite when it's compressed a certain amount. So, if your engine is pinging, which means that the fuel is ignighting before it should, then higher octane gasoline will help with that. Since our engines are made for 87 octane, higher octane shouldn't be needed, unless you have modified and increased the compression of your engine, or have a turbo/supercharger.
