I think the normal angle would look best
IMO I really hate the slanted look
I think it looks more clean the normal way

Run a dual exhaust and have one coffe can exiting from the vehicle slanted right in front of the rear wheel, under the passenger door on a sedan.

or just straight out the back

As long as it doesn't look like a Wal-Mart muffler or KMart mounting job it will look good.

I prefer the straight look
How do some OEM rear bumpers have an indentation for the muffler to peak through???
Kinda like this:
__
/ O \___ <--bumper: "O" is muffler tip

Where can I get this done to my car? Some straight angle muffler are seen with this.

I think the straight muffler looks better. The tilt to one side looks a lil wierd. Mufflers with big outlets that make some noise draw attention to your car and muffler anyways.

Depends on the style of muffler, but in your case slanted looks nice. Tommy (01civicboi) has his N1 slanted; I've seen it in person many times and like it.

here is what i think. the older gen models look okay with a tolted muffler. but imho, our 7th gens look kinda queer with a tilted one. but i have only seen a few 7th gens to speak on that...

OEM rear underbody spoiler adds that.
