I'm buying something from the UK here shortly...what's the best way of sending money over there? (it would of course need to be converted from us dollars to uk pounds)

I'm guessing that you are shopping on ebay? I would wire the money over there. It can be converted then.
I bought a Ferrari bookbag from the corporation and they charge whatever their money is(lire? its been so long) Anyways, I gave them my credit card and it was converted to USD on my bill no problem.
Be prepared for waiting a long time for shipping though. It took me 2 months to recieve my backpack.

Actually I never have, but if you are buying from overseas then make sure you use an Escrow service.
I usually go to a site like Expedia and do a conversion there and then I have a ball park range of the exchange rate.
